2/05/23 Darren O'Day, Orioles reliever from 2012 to 2018, retires after 15 major league seasons. Darren O'Day is calling it a day. O'Day, a key cog in the Orioles' bullpen for seven seasons from 2012 to 2018, announced his retirement from baseball Monday after 15 years in the major leagues. O'Day, 40, pitched for six different organizations and is best known for his submarine delivery — a style that made him one of baseball's best set-up men during his prime. O'Day was signed as an undrafted free agent out of college and made his major league debut in 2008 with the Los Angeles Angels.

2/02/23 Now retired, Darren O'Day reflects on time with Orioles and the rebuild after his trade. With no more bullpens to throw, Darren O'Day finally has time to garden. The former Orioles pitcher's new hobby was always something he had an interest in but was unable to find the time to do during his playing days. “It's my post-retirement workout,” O'Day said with a laugh as he shoveled soil into a wheelbarrow for his vegetable garden, which he plans to fill with broccoli, cauliflower, onions and carrots, at his home in Atlanta. The submariner had his best seasons in an Orioles uniform, pitching in Baltimore from 2012 to 2018 and earning an All-Star Game nod in 2015.

I would say it’s likely his season is over, but we’ll have some more information on that when it’s ready to give out,” Boone said before finishing a series against the Red Sox in The Bronx.

5/01/21 Yankees Notebook: Darren O'Day goes on the IL with 'cranky' shoulder. He’s kind of been cranky in the shoulder really all month,” the Yankees manager said before Saturday’s game against the Tigers at Yankee Stadium. Started out a little bit early, but he was able obviously to pitch through it. Actually, the middle of the month was starting to feel pretty good and was kind of a non-issue and then over the last few days it still was just kind of in there cranky.

After years of being an opponent, particularly with the Baltimore Orioles, “it was a little bit strange,’’ O’Day said of connecting with “some familiar faces from across the diamond’’ that he now calls teammates. But we just laughed,’’ O’Day said. I’m really excited about it.
