4/14/10In his second start of the year, Santana (0-2, 6.94 ERA) gave up five runs in 5-2/3 IP Tuesday in a loss to the Yankees. He seems to be throwing the ball hard, but not accurately. He walked five batters while getting only 60 of his 114 pitches called for strikes.
4/08/10Santana (0-1) gave up four runs and five hits in six IP, and he struck out four batters, but the Angels lost to the Twins, 4-2, last night. He threw his fastball consistently in the 92-95 mph range, and his pitch count reached 105.

3/23/10Santana did not pitch today as scheduled because his elbow became inflamed after he bumped it on a piece of furniture three days ago. The injury is unrelated to the elbow ligament problems he had during the 2009 season. The inflammation has subsided and he expects to throw a bullpen session in the next day or two.
3/14/10Santana faced the minimum number of KC batters over three innings of work yesterday. He allowed only one hit and issued no walks. He also struck out five batters. Contrast that to the spring camp of 2009 when he was on the DL with a sore elbow. He said that his arm feels healthy now and he plans to eclipse his regular season performance of 2008 when he won 16 games and posted a 3.49 ERA along with a career-high 214 strikeouts in 219 IP.
