9/02/10From The Sports Xchange notes: C John Baker's attempt to return from a strained right forearm hit a bump Friday when he felt discomfort after catching five innings for Class A Jupiter in the first game of a rehab stint. "I don't think it went too well. It seems like we have to slow down with him," said manager Edwin Rodriguez. "He said it didn't feel 100 percent." Rodriguez said he wasn't ready to give an opinion on whether he thinks Baker will return to the Marlins this year. Baker has been out since May 14. There are reports he could need Tommy John elbow surgery.

Baker threw long toss before Saturday's game against the Astros, but had his arm bandaged afterwords. "I've been throwing extensively, and the only discomfort is throwing to bases right now," Baker said. "In early September, we'll make a decision about any type of surgery, or I'll be back on the field."
8/18/10Marlins C John Baker, out since May 12 because of a strained right flexor muscle in his arm, threw for the fifth straight day Tuesday, according to MLB.com. He'll throw to the bases later in the week, and if that goes well, he hopes to return to the big leagues Aug. 24. "It's gone really well. I haven't had any setbacks," said Baker, who had been doing his rehab in Jupiter, Fla., recently. "I haven't had any real pain."
