SEA8/7 6:38 PM Dominic Canzone (OF-SEA) 3 takeaways from the White Sox’s winless series in Seattle, including an IL stint for Chase Meidroth. SEATTLE — The Chicago White Sox had plenty of runners on base Thursday. They just couldn’t get them in. The Sox squandered several scoring chances, falling 4-3 to the Seattle Mariners in 11 innings in front of 37,930 at T-Mobile Park. The Sox went 1 for 17 with runners in scoring position while being swept in the three-game series. Dominic Canzone delivered the walk-off hit for the Mariners, ...

SD8/7 5:18 PM Ramon Laureano (OF-SD) New-look Padres open three-game set against surging Red Sox. Newcomers have already made a significant impact for San Diego, and they'll aim to continue that trend as the Padres open a three-game home series against the Boston Red Sox. Ramon Laureano has hit like a sledgehammer in his first week with the Padres, while Freddy Fermin has given them more offense from the catching position than they've had most of the year. Mason Miller has made his presence felt on an already-deep San Diego bullpen, and Nestor Cortes gave them a decent start on Wednesday night.

DET8/7 5:10 PM Chris Paddack (P-DET) Biggest concern Tigers still have after 2025 MLB trade deadline. The Detroit Tigers might be sitting pretty atop the AL Central, but don't let the standings fool you — there's a glaring issue that could blow up their October dreams if left unaddressed: the bullpen. While President of Baseball Ops Scott Harris took a quantity-over-quality approach at the trade deadline, the club is still staring down a relief corps that ranks near the bottom of Major League Baseball in key metrics and is, quite frankly, holding this team back. On paper, the Tigers made a flurry of moves to shore up their pitching staff, bringing in Chris Paddack and Charlie Morton for rotation depth, as well as relievers Kyle Finnegan, Rafael Montero, Paul Sewald (currently injured), and Codi Heuer.

AZ8/7 5:07 PM Zac Gallen (P-AZ) Zac Gallen aims to continue improvement as D-Backs host Rockies. Arizona right-hander Zac Gallen received welcome news hours before the July 31 trade deadline, when general manager Mike Hazen phoned to tell Gallen he was going nowhere. "I'm glad to be here," Gallen said. Gallen, in the midst of the least effective season of his career, is among them as he makes his second post-deadline start in the first game of a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies on Friday in Phoenix. Gallen (8-12, 5.48 ERA) is to face Colorado left-hander Austin Gomber (0-5, 6.18 ERA).

CLE8/7 5:00 PM Vince Velasquez (P-CLE) Former Padres Pitcher Elects to Sign in Korea. Vince Velasquez's days in the Cleveland Guardians' organization are over. The former San Diego Padres pitcher, 33, is headed to the Korea Baseball Organization after Cleveland sold his contract to the Lotte Giants, who will send cash back in return. The move likely guarantees Velasquez a payday above what his minor-league deal with the Guardians would've offered.

MIN8/7 4:30 PM James Outman (OF-MIN) Dodgers Castoff Outfielder Breaks Silence After Shockingly Being Traded at Deadline. Former Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder James Outman made a goodbye post on Instagram following his departure from the organization, as the Dodgers sent him to the Minnesota Twins for Brock Stewart at the trade deadline. The Dodgers drafted Outman in the seventh round of the 2018 MLB Draft, and he made his debut with the Dodgers in 2022.

CHC8/7 3:30 PM Matthew Boyd (P-CHC) Cubs vs Cardinals: Previewing Pitching Matchups For Huge Series This Weekend. The Chicago Cubs have been struggling a little bit as of late as they try to stay on track and keep pace in the division with the surging Milwaukee Brewers. With the Brewers seeming suddenly incapable of losing and now the first team to 70 wins, Chicago goes into the weekend after avoiding the sweep against the Cincinnati Reds trailing the division by four games. The opportunity to gain some ground back is there though, and the Cubs prepare to hit the road to face their most hated rival, the St. Louis Cardinals in a three-game set starting Friday night. The first game of the series -- which begins at 7:15 p.m. CST Friday -- pits Cubs All-Star left-hander Matthew Boyd against Cardinals rookie right-hander Michael McGreevy.

CIN8/7 3:18 PM Ke'Bryan Hayes (3B-CIN) Ke'Bryan Hayes returns to Pittsburgh after being traded to the playoff-chasing Reds. Ke'Bryan Hayes said he thought he might be in Pittsburgh to stay before the Pirates traded him July 30 to NL Central rival Cincinnati. Hayes' future with the Pirates looked secure after he signed a $70 million, eight-year contract in 2022. “The reason I signed the contract here in Pittsburgh, I wanted to be here and maybe play here my whole career,” Hayes said.
