The Giants have agreed to contracts with first baseman LaMonte Wade Jr., right-hander Camilo Doval and right-hander Tyler Rogers, avoiding arbitration with all three players. Reports have indicated that the San Francisco Giants are open to moving Lamonte Wade Jr. The Giants have been linked to a few first basemen on the market, but many of the top options available are on new teams already. Wade is a better player than Bell at this stage of their careers, but if San Francisco doesn't want to re-sign Wade next winter, moving him now would be the logical thing to do. Of the positions they need to upgrade is first base. While the Giants didn't get bad production out of the first base position, with LaMonte Wade posting a 121 OPS+, they could use a slugger who could come in and hit 25-plus home runs. LaMonte Wade Jr. and Matt Chapman hit two home runs each, Landen Roupp pitched five scoreless innings for his first major league win, and the San Francisco Giants handed the Kansas City Royals their sixth straight loss, 9-0. The Royals are clinging to a wild-card berth. Kansas City’s lead over the Minnesota Twins — who were rained out Saturday — was reduced to a half game. Wade was held out of the starting lineup on Thursday against the Blue Jays as he deals with hamstring tightness. Per manager Bob Melvin, Wade, who missed a month due to a left hamstring strain, felt something yesterday and the team did not want to start him in a day game following the night game. The Giants will need at least a month or two of above-average play before there can be serious talk about them being the team they were expected to be. The trade deadline poses some questions for the front office, especially if they continue to sit in the middle of the pack. Lamonte Wade Jr., coming off an absence on May 26 due to hamstring injury, unfortunately re-aggravated this knock of his after sliding towards second base in an attempt to break up the double play in the fifth inning of their win vs. the Phillies.
