Nathan Eovaldi’s impressive streak for the Texas Rangers ended with a dud, but without a decision. After going 6-0 with a 0.47 ERA in six starts since the start of July, Eovaldi was tagged for three home runs while allowing season highs of five runs and eight hits in five innings against Arizona on Monday night. The 35-year-old right-hander exited with the Rangers trailing 5-1, but they took the game to extra innings tied 6-6. Eovaldi had allowed only six runs total over his previous seven starts. He had thrown one-hit ball over eight innings in a 2-0 win over the Yankees last Tuesday. Evoladi’s overall ERA rose from 1.38 to 1.71, still better than the 1.94 of qualified MLB leader Paul Skenes.

Right-hander Elvis Peguero was used in an opener role in Monday's 2-1 loss to the Tigers, allowing one run on three hits with three strikeouts in 1 ? innings. The Tigers' offense was shut down by the pitching staff and some strong defensive plays from the Sox' defense. Manager Will Venable said pregame that the team will need “contributions from multiple guys” on Tuesday, indicating a bullpen game, so it was important that the bullpen didn't get too taxed Monday.

For injured White Sox pitcher Drew Thorpe, that meant leaving the 110-plus degree heat in Arizona and spending time with his big-league teammates. Thorpe, who underwent Tommy John surgery and may be able to return to game action next season, has been with the team the last four series against the Angels, Mariners, Guardians and Tigers. After being part of a team that set a modern MLB record with 121 losses, he's noticed strides on and off the field from the 2025 White Sox. “A lot better than last year, just vibe wise, clubhouse, guys, everything seems like it's meshing really well,” Thorpe said.

Carlos Correa hit an RBI single to help the Astros to the victory after they were swept in Boston to start the month. Houston starter Cristian Javier (1-0) had a solid outing in his return after sitting out more than 14 months following Tommy John surgery.
