Ketel Marte's solo home run with two outs in the ninth inning was the difference as the Arizona Diamondbacks came from behind to beat the Texas Rangers 3-2 on Tuesday in the middle game of a three-game interleague set in Arlington, Texas. Marte's long ball came off Rangers reliever Danny Coulombe (2-1), who had not allowed a home run all season. Marte had two hits and two RBIs as the Diamondbacks won for the fourth time in their past five games.

The Chicago Cubs are now 4-6 for the month of August after losing to the Toronto Blue Jays, 5-1, in the first game of a three-game series at Rogers Centre in Toronto. The Cubs (67-51) were at the mercy of Blue Jays starter Jose Berrios (9-4) and a terrific bullpen performance to limit Chicago to four hits and one run. Chicago's offensive malaise continued north of the border. The Blue Jays (70-50) remained one of baseball's best home teams and handed newly activated Cubs starter Javier Assad (0-1) his first loss in a year.

Austin Martin's leadoff single was the only hit the Minnesota Twins got in a 9-1 loss to the New York Yankees. As bad as that sounds, it was actually worse because the Twins loaded the bases with nobody out in the first inning and wound up scoring one run on a groundout by Royce Lewis.

Jonathan India added a two-run homer as Kansas City won its fourth straight home game.
