Boyd’s workload is worth watching as the Cubs fight for the NL Central title. He is among a group of pitchers going through a jump in innings in the middle of a playoff race. The days of predetermined innings limits, especially when it comes to young prospects, aren’t going away anytime soon. But more organizations appear to be going with a case-by-case approach.
