The Mets did not announce the decision following their 4-0 loss to the Phillies at Citi Field. 2/27/24 | Mets veteran lost his 'belly,' but he's hungry for roster spot: 'I want to earn more money'. One New York Mets veteran may actually be in the best shape of his life this season, embracing change for the sake of becoming a full-time major leaguer. Pitcher Joey Lucchesi's lifestyle change began a year ago, he explained to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo. It was then that he tapped into the expertise of Francesco Rossi, a holistic therapist, who transformed his diet — grass-fed meat, fish, tea, no candy and ice cream — and even had Lucchesi using cold tubs and Chinese medicine. According to MLB.com, Lucchesi, 31, weighs 216 pounds, down from 242 at the start of last spring training. Source: https://www.nj.com/mets/2024/02/mets-veteran-lost-... |
10/16/23 | Joey Lucchesi was solid when called upon for the Mets. Joey Lucchesi seemed to finally be coming into his own during the 2021 season when he unfortunately needed to undergo Tommy John surgery, which ended his season and forced him to miss all of the following year. In 2023, he was expected to provide rotation depth, but despite Justin Verlander and José Quintana missing the beginning of the year with injuries, Lucchesi didn't make the rotation out of spring training and didn't make his season debut until April 21 against the Giants. The team lost all three games against Detroit, Colorado, and Washington, and shortly after, he was sent back to Triple-A and was not seen again until August for a successful spot start against the Cardinals. Lucchesi closed the year with three successful starts in September and put in one outstanding effort against the Diamondbacks, during which he again completed seven innings.
