Yainer Diaz drives in 3 runs to help the Astros rally to a 6-4 win over the Tigers. Yainer Diaz run-scoring singles in consecutive innings, rookie Ryan Gusto matched a season high with six strikeouts and the Houston Astros beat the Detroit Tigers 6-4 on Tuesday night. The Astros scored three runs in the sixth and seventh innings — all with two outs — for a 6-2 lead. Diaz hit a two-run single that bounced just in front of center fielder Riley Greene, giving Houston its first lead at 3-2 in the sixth.

Royals Snap Rays Winning Streak At Five. The Kansas City Royals (15-15) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (14-15) 3-1 on Tuesday night at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. Kansas City built a 2-0 lead early with single runs in the first and second innings. Junior Caminero hit a solo homer to pull within 2-1 in the fourth, but that would be the only offense the Rays would get on the night.

White Sox lose 7-2 to Brewers. The White Sox' lack of pitching depth hurt them in Tuesday's 7-2 loss to the Brewers. In what was essentially a bullpen game for the Sox who had to navigate left-hander Martin Perez's turn in the rotation. Opener Tyler Gilbert and Bryse Wilson did well to mitigate the damage, holding the Brewers to one run over five innings. Joey Ortiz singled, and after a flyout by Jackson Chourio, Ortiz stole second base to get into scoring position.

Freddy Fermin had three hits and an RBI, Kyle Isbel and Salvador Perez each drove in a run and Michael Lorenzen pitched six strong innings for his 50th career win as the Kansas City Royals beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1 on Tuesday night. Perez’s two-out double drove in Jonathan India in the first. One inning later, Fermin poked a single to right that allowed Drew Walters to advance from first to third, setting up Isbel’s sacrifice fly.

Seattle Mariners Ready for AL West Clash Against LA Angels. Both teams have had polar opposite beginnings to the season, as the Mariners have control over first place in the AL West, while the Angels are sitting in last place, 3.5 games back of Seattle. The pitching matchup for Tuesday night's contest will see a couple of righties squaring off, as Bryce Miller will toe the rubber for the Mariners and Jack Kochanowicz for the Halos. Miller has had a slow start to his campaign, with a 1-3 record with a 4.21 ERA, along with 25 punchouts in 25.1 innings pitched across five starts.

Struggles of Texas Rangers New First Baseman Look Worse As Former Star Shines. The Texas Rangers made a change at first base this offseason and the early returns have been mixed, while their former star player is doing great on his new team. One of the first major moves that the Rangers made this offseason was sending over a haul of prospects to the Miami Marlins for third baseman/designated hitter Jake Burger. With Burger on the roster and able to play first base, they decided to move on from Nathaniel Lowe and trade him to the Washington Nationals. It made some sense as Burger has been a solid slugger for this career and Lowe was set to hit free agency sooner.

Former Chicago Cubs Infielder Shares Controversial Quote After Trade to Rival. The Chicago Cubs have done some serious roster re-tooling over the course of the season as they figure out the best group to help them win. One of those moves before the season was selecting former Detroit Tigers infielding prospect Gage Workman from the Rule 5 draft. After slashing .214/.267/.286 and struggling on defense despite being a supposed defensive specialist, Chicago would designate Workman for assignment. Days later, the Cubs wound up trading him away, though Workman would not have to go far and was dealt across town to the Chicago White Sox.

Thirty and thankful: Tigers' Zach McKinstry gets special birthday recognition. Zach McKinstry turned 30 years old on Tuesday, but the Detroit Tigers utility man didn't just celebrate with a postgame cupcake. McKinstry was named the first “Most Valuable Philanthropist” of the 2025 season by the Players Trust, the charitable arm of the MLB Players Association. The recognition comes with a $10,000 grant to support McKinstry's work with various charities, including BBQ Mission, a Phoenix-based nonprofit that serves meals and spiritual support to the homeless. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said McKinstry was recognized for both his birthday and the honor during a pregame meeting.

Is Breakout Finally Coming for Detroit Tigers Star Riley Greene?. The Detroit Tigers entered Monday's action with the best record in the American League. Little things came back to hurt Detroit in a manner that hasn't been seen in a while. The Tigers committed two errors, both by shortstop Trey Sweeney in the bottom of the seventh, that allowed the Astros to score four runs during that frame to break things wide open. It's one game, but this result is going to test a young Detroit squad and how they respond will be key.

How a Simple Change in Approach is Helping J.P. Crawford Drive Seattle Mariners' Offense. The Seattle Mariners offense has surprisingly been one of the best in baseball through the first month of the season. Seattle is also fourth in on-base percentage (.336) and fifth in OPS (.748). It's a far cry from last season, when Seattle led baseball in strikeouts and was 29th in batting average at .229. Several players have had a hand in the M's breakout, from Jorge Polanco (.377 average), to Cal Raleigh (10 homers) to Dylan Moore (AL Player of the Week last week) to Randy Arozarena (several clutch hits), but the contributions of shortstop J.P. Crawford cannot be overlooked.

Red Sox resurgent $140 million star named one of baseball's biggest surprises. Once considered one of baseball's best all-around shortstops during his time with the Colorado Rockies, Trevor Story's first three years with the Boston Red Sox have been nothing short of a disaster. The then-29-year-old signed a six-year,$140 million contract with the Red Sox before the 2022 season in the hopes of forming one of baseball's best double-play combinations with Xander Bogaerts, but got off to a brutal start with a .194/.296/.269 line through his first 24 games. A three-homer game against the Mariners helped him get back on track, but then just as he and the Red Sox were heating up, an errant Corey Kluber fastball fractured his wrist and sidelined him for six weeks. The 2023 would see Story move back from second base to shortstop after Bogaerts signed with the San Diego Padres, but due to an internal brace procedure to clean up a lingering elbow injury, he wouldn't be able to take the field until August.

Astros get bad news on future with ace amid 1.22 ERA. The Houston Astros are very lucky to have Hunter Brown on their side this season. The 26-year-old has been dominant in the early stages of the campaign, throwing the baseball at an elite level with his 1.22 ERA and 0.84 WHIP. Brown, who is arbitration-eligible in 2026 but doesn't hit free agency until 2029, is someone the Astros want to keep around on a potential extension before he hits free agency. Brown is blossoming into one of the best pitchers in baseball, someone who would be better served to await a nine-figure payday in free agency than risk losing money on an in-season extension.

Roman Anthony is on the cusp of making his big-league debut as the hype around Boston's outfield prospect grows. Anthony crushed during the start of Worcester's season when he hit five home runs while recording a 1.039 OPS in 23 games this year. Jonah Bride had three of Minnesota's 17 hits, Bailey Ober allowed one run in 7 2/3 innings and the Minnesota Twins rolled to an 11-1 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Monday night. Detroit Tigers' Massive Bright Spot Provides Unlikely Offensive Boost. It has been a great start to the season for the Detroit Tigers, who have exceeded expectations early on. Coming into the year, the Tigers have new-found expectations after not only making the playoffs last campaign, but winning a series and coming within one game of making the American League Championship Series. Detroit was very active in free agency, bringing in multiple veterans to help out. For the pitching staff, notable additions like Jack Flaherty gave them a front-line starter to pair with Tarik Skubal, and Tommy Kahnle has been a great weapon late in games out of the bullpen.

Twins rout Guardians, win 4th straight. The Minnesota Twins are playing their best baseball of the season currently. It may be young in the 2025 campaign, but the Twins have won their last four games, and six of their last seven. In last nights game against Cleveland, the Twins got the scoring going from the jump scoring two runs in the first and second inning. They would go on to score two more in the fifth, three in the sixth and two in the eighth on their way to the 11-1 rout. Bailey Ober was credited the win, his third of the season. The Twins mainly did it with small-ball, getting their lone homerun from Edouard Julien. The Twins will look to make it five in a row this evening in game two of their series with the Guardians. Astros turn to Ryan Gusto in bid for series win vs. Tigers. The Houston bullpen entered this three-game series with the Detroit Tigers leading the American League with a 2.64 ERA, and when the need arose to protect a slim margin, Astros relievers again answered the bell. Aside from reliever Kaleb Ort, who allowed a two-run home run to Detroit's Riley Greene while making his season debut, the Astros received another lights-out performance from their bullpen in an 8-5 win on Monday. Luke Keaschall, who suffered a non-displaced fracture of his right ulna, and Matt Wallner, who suffered what head athletic trainer Nick Paparesta described as a “moderate to severe hamstring strain,” will both have extended absences. Red Sox's Brayan Bello honors victims of Jet Set nightclub collapse in D.R.. In the wee hours of the morning of April 8, the roof of the Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, caved in with hundreds of people inside. Frances Robles and Hogla Enecia Pérez of The Washington Post report that 232 people died in the collapse and nearly 200 others were injured. The repercussions of the tragedy echoed across the MLB community — not only did former players have family members in the club at the time of the collapse, but former MLB reliever Octavio Dotel and former prospect Tony Blanco were killed in the accident.

Carlos Narváez, the Red Sox' backup plan at catcher, has been working out fine since an injury to starter Connor Wong. Then they did it again a year later when the Yankees sent 26-year-old catcher Carlos Narváez to the Sox for a minor league pitcher. Verdugo helped the Yankees get to the World Series last season. Now there's a chance Narváez could do the same for the Red Sox. Narváez has started 15 of the last 19 games since Connor Wong went on the injured list April 8 with a broken finger.

New York Yankees fans are likely done being optimistic about what DJ LeMahieu can bring to the table after he has missed tons of time the last two years. The last time LeMahieu was an impactful player for the Yankees was in 2022 when he slashed .261/.357/.377 with 12 homers, 46 RBI and had an OPS+ of 110 to go along with a Gold Glove Award. LeMahieu was supposed to be the team's starting third baseman, and with him out of the lineup, New York has not gotten production from that spot like a contending team should, making it all the more impressive that they are leading the AL East division. After recording a hit on Sunday, LeMahieu has gone 6-for-10 with a homer and three RBI in four games with Double-A Somerset, a positive sign that he could be returning to the bigs with a potent bat in his hand.

As first reported by Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors, the Orioles claimed left-handed pitcher Walter Pennington off waivers after he was designated for assignment last week by the Texas Rangers. Pennington was acquired by the Rangers last year at the trade deadline from the Kansas City Royals, and after a couple of impressive showings in Triple-A, he was promoted to the big league roster. How Yankees' Luke Weaver used World Series low point to fuel perfect start to this season. Of all the clutch moments and big-time performances from Luke Weaver during his stint as the Yankees' closer last fall, the right-hander learned the most from one of his club's lowest points in the playoffs. After the disastrous events that unfolded in the fifth inning of Game 5 in the World Series, it was Weaver who was on the mound when the Dodgers tied the game and retook the lead in the eighth. Weaver, who is back to closing games for the Yankees after Devin Williams' well-deserved demotion, had entered with the bases loaded and nobody out in relief of Tommy Kahnle. Kahnle was responsible for those runners, so he was charged with the earned runs and the loss.

Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman is 16th all-time in saves with 339, just two behind Hall of Famer Rollie Fingers (341). Chapman thinks teammate Justin Slaten can do the job for a long time, too. “He has the ability to do it,” Chapman said through translator Carlos Villoria Benítez here at Progressive Field. The Red Sox have to look no further than their 2025 roster for their closer in 2026 and beyond.

Tigers ace left-hander Tarik Skubal validated his reputation as the top pitcher in the American League and anchored a 7-0 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday that enabled Detroit to complete a season-long homestand at 8-2. Yankees rookie has unforgettable night, but he's more than feel-good story. J.C. Escarra repeated it back to himself, standing in the Yankees' clubhouse on Sunday night. Maybe it was Escarra's way of pinching himself, making sure the ball he was holding was real and that the 415-foot moonshot he crushed to the bleachers in right-center an hour or so earlier wasn't a figment of his imagination. After all, Escarra had been dreaming about his first big-league home run — while wearing pinstripes — for as long as he can remember. Unless you're Bryce Harper or Paul Skenes, even the highest-ranked prospects and first-round draft picks spend years in the minor leagues.

Rangers hope visiting A's cure bats' ills.
