4/29/25 7:35 PM - White Sox lose 7-2 to Brewers. The White Sox' lack of pitching depth hurt them in Tuesday's 7-2 loss to the Brewers. Jake Burger (1B/3B/DH - TEX)
4/29/25 5:00 PM - Struggles of Texas Rangers New First Baseman Look Worse As Former Star Shines. The Texas Rangers made a change at first base this offseason and the early returns have been mixed, while their former star player is doing great on his new team. One of the first major moves that the Rangers made this offseason was sending over a haul of prospects to the Miami Marlins for third baseman/designated hitter Jake Burger. With Burger on the roster and able to play first base, they decided to move on from Nathaniel Lowe and trade him to the Washington Nationals. It made some sense as Burger has been a solid slugger for this career and Lowe was set to hit free agency sooner.

4/29/25 5:00 PM - Former Chicago Cubs Infielder Shares Controversial Quote After Trade to Rival. The Chicago Cubs have done some serious roster re-tooling over the course of the season as they figure out the best group to help them win. One of those moves before the season was selecting former Detroit Tigers infielding prospect Gage Workman from the Rule 5 draft. After slashing .214/.267/.286 and struggling on defense despite being a supposed defensive specialist, Chicago would designate Workman for assignment. Days later, the Cubs wound up trading him away, though Workman would not have to go far and was dealt across town to the Chicago White Sox.

Trey Sweeney (SS - DET)
4/29/25 4:31 PM - Is Breakout Finally Coming for Detroit Tigers Star Riley Greene?. The Detroit Tigers entered Monday's action with the best record in the American League. Little things came back to hurt Detroit in a manner that hasn't been seen in a while. Jorge Polanco (2B - SEA)
4/29/25 11:45 AM - How a Simple Change in Approach is Helping J.P. Crawford Drive Seattle Mariners' Offense. The Seattle Mariners offense has surprisingly been one of the best in baseball through the first month of the season. Seattle is also fourth in on-base percentage (.336) and fifth in OPS (.748). It's a far cry from last season, when Seattle led baseball in strikeouts and was 29th in batting average at .229. Several players have had a hand in the M's breakout, from Jorge Polanco (.377 average), to Cal Raleigh (10 homers) to Dylan Moore (AL Player of the Week last week) to Randy Arozarena (several clutch hits), but the contributions of shortstop J.P. 4/29/25 10:30 AM - ANALYSIS: How Good Was Logan Evans in His Major League Debut?. The Seattle Mariners most pro-ready pitching prospect, Logan Evans, made his first major league start in a 7-6 win against the Miami Marlins on Sunday. Evans pitched five innings, struck out three, walked three and allowed two earned runs on two hits. Evans' debut was a solid first impression for Seattle fans getting their first look at the 2023 draft pick. Heading into the 2025 MLB campaign, the Cleveland Guardians' one sure thing in the starting rotation appeared to be Tanner Bibee. After all, Bibee was brilliant over the first couple of years of his career and was the primary reason why the Guardians' paltry starting pitching didn't keep them out of the playoffs last year. Alex Bregman (3B - BOS)
4/29/25 10:00 AM - Red Sox 'Most Impactful Signing' Might Surprisingly Opt Out After 2025. The Boston Red Sox have one of the best infielders in Major League Baseball, but they might need to give him another payday after the season to keep him around. Boston's offense is one of MLB's best through the first month of the season. A huge reason why is third baseman Alex Bregman, who leads the Red Sox in batting average (.319), RBI (22), total hits (37), and OPS (.937). On Monday, Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer ranked Bregman as the No. 1 third baseman in baseball while also wondering whether Bregman's awesome production could lead to the 31-year-old opting out of his contract with the Red Sox after the season.

Trevor Story (SS - BOS)
4/29/25 9:04 AM - Red Sox resurgent $140 million star named one of baseball's biggest surprises. Once considered one of baseball's best all-around shortstops during his time with the Colorado Rockies, Trevor Story's first three years with the Boston Red Sox have been nothing short of a disaster. The then-29-year-old signed a six-year,$140 million contract with the Red Sox before the 2022 season in the hopes of forming one of baseball's best double-play combinations with Xander Bogaerts, but got off to a brutal start with a .194/.296/.269 line through his first 24 games. A three-homer game against the Mariners helped him get back on track, but then just as he and the Red Sox were heating up, an errant Corey Kluber fastball fractured his wrist and sidelined him for six weeks. The 2023 would see Story move back from second base to shortstop after Bogaerts signed with the San Diego Padres, but due to an internal brace procedure to clean up a lingering elbow injury, he wouldn't be able to take the field until August.

Kristian Campbell (2B - BOS)
4/29/25 9:00 AM - Red Sox 'Future Star' Shockingly Ranked No. 2 Player At Position In MLB. The Boston Red Sox have a young star excelling in 2025, but is he already a top two player at his position in all of Major League Baseball? It seems a tad premature to bestow such a lofty honor on a 22-year-old with less than 100 big-league at-bats to his name, but that's just what Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer did on Tuesday. Rymer ranked the top 10 MLB players at each position, and when it came to second basemen, Rymer surprisingly had Red Sox phenom Kristian Campbell ranked No. 2 ahead of guys like Milwaukee Brewers' Brice Turang (No. 3) and Los Angeles Dodgers' Tommy Edman (No. 5).

Brown, who is arbitration-eligible in 2026 but doesn't hit free agency until 2029, is someone the Astros want to keep around on a potential extension before he hits free agency. Michael Wacha (P - KC)
4/28/25 5:34 PM - Wacha shuts down Astros, Pasquantino homers as KC beats Houston 2-0 for the second straight night. KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- - Michael Wacha scattered four hits over six innings, Vinnie Pasquantino homered and the Kansas City Royals beat the Houston Astros 2-0 for the second straight night Saturday to run their winning streak to six. Wacha (1-3) once again received little run support, but the veteran right-hander made the meager production stand up on chilly evening at Kauffman Stadium. Steven Cruz worked the seventh for Kansas City, his seventh appearance this season without allowing a run. John Schreiber left runners on the corners in the eighth, and Carlos Estévez had a perfect ninth for his seventh save.

Royce Lewis (3B/DH - MIN)
4/28/25 5:23 PM - As two near return, Twins plan for May without pair of big contributors. The Minnesota Twins, in short order, are preparing to welcome back Royce Lewis and Willi Castro. Luke Keaschall, who suffered a non-displaced fracture of his right ulna, and Matt Wallner, who suffered what head athletic trainer Nick Paparesta described as a “moderate to severe hamstring strain,” will both have extended absences. At this point, the Twins do not believe he needs surgery. As for Wallner, Paparesta said his injury was a Grade 2 or 3 strain.

Refsnyder has hit .333 with a .967 OPS through 12 games and 36 plate appearances this season. “He's been huge for us,” manager Alex Cora said. In Refsnyder and infielder Romy Gonzalez, the Sox have two players who can still produce after not playing for a few days. Gonzalez drew a walk and scored two runs playing first base.

Brant Hurter (P - DET)
4/28/25 4:43 PM - Detroit Tigers' bullpen keeps finding success with few roles and no labels. Brant Hurter doesn't care when he pitches, how long he pitches, or what the score is when his name gets called. “I just like to pitch,” Hurter said. Of course, in A.J. Hinch's bullpen, versatility is the norm, not the exception. Hurter is the perfect archetype of the 2025 Detroit Tigers bullpen — a group defined by flexibility, depth, and the absence of rigid roles.

The New York Yankees are off to a 17-11 start heading into play on Monday, April 28, but the circumstances haven't been ideal. Among their issues has been Giancarlo Stanton, who has missed the entire season so far due to an injury to both elbows. Starting pitcher Marcus Stroman hasn't helped either; he was ineffective in three starts before hitting the IL with left knee inflammation. Yankees manager Aaron Boone provided an update on both via MLB.com's Bryan Hoch, and neither seems close to a return to action.

Baltimore just wrapped up a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday, and after the sweep by Detroit, the Orioles are 10-17 and in last place in the AL East. DJ LeMahieu (1B/3B - NYY)
4/28/25 1:39 PM - Could New York Yankees Get Vintage Version of Oft-Injured Star When He Returns?. New York Yankees fans are likely done being optimistic about what DJ LeMahieu can bring to the table after he has missed tons of time the last two years. The last time LeMahieu was an impactful player for the Yankees was in 2022 when he slashed .261/.357/.377 with 12 homers, 46 RBI and had an OPS+ of 110 to go along with a Gold Glove Award. LeMahieu was supposed to be the team's starting third baseman, and with him out of the lineup, New York has not gotten production from that spot like a contending team should, making it all the more impressive that they are leading the AL East division. After recording a hit on Sunday, LeMahieu has gone 6-for-10 with a homer and three RBI in four games with Double-A Somerset, a positive sign that he could be returning to the bigs with a potent bat in his hand.

Escarra's journey from Uber driver to backup catcher for the Yankees got another chapter on Sunday, as he homered for the first time in his major league career in a 5-1 win over Toronto in a doubleheader sweep in The Bronx. Escarra took ex-Yankee Chad Green deep to the right field seats with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to give the Yankees a bit more of a cushion. “I didn't feel the ball off the bat,'' Escarra said. “It was amazing.” J.C. How much more of Andrew Vaughn do we have to endure before the White Sox call up Tim Elko? Elko might not be a savior, but he can do better than Vaughn. By Todd Welter | Share on Facebook Share on X Copy Article Nick Cammett/GettyImages Share on Facebook Share on X Share on Reddit Copy Article Andrew Vaughn was not the reason the Chicago White Sox lost 3-2 in 10 innings to the Athletics yesterday. However, he was a huge reason why the Sox tasted defeat. A baserunning gaffe made by Vaughn in the sixth inning cost the White Sox the chance to break a 1-1 tie. Then the Pale Hose finally got the lead in the 10th with the opportunity to pour on more runs, and Vaughn grounded into an inning-ending double

Max Scherzer (P - TOR)
4/28/25 5:55 AM - Blue Jays manager sounds alarm on Max Scherzer injury news. The Toronto Blue Jays might look back on the 2025 season and call it a success, regardless of the record books. The team was able to lock in homegrown superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. with a $500 million contract and that could be a major win if he continues to elevate his production for years to come. First and foremost, the Blue Jays will have to forge a healthy starting rotation. Scherzer has been on the injured list since late March with a thumb problem and still seems a long way off from contributing.

Jeff Hoffman (P - TOR)
4/28/25 5:36 AM - Phillies closer makes major change before extra-innings heroics at Cubs. Despite a winning record to start the season, the Philadelphia Phillies have been under some pressure. Facing what could be a final year to win with his current core of veteran stars, president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski was grilled about his offseason decisions as the team's bullpen struggled mightily across the first 25 games. After Jeff Hoffman and Carlos Estévez departed for new deals and closer addition Jordan Romano looked out of sorts on the mound, Dombrowski was forced to address his thinking last week. Entering the bottom of the tenth inning with a two-run lead for the Phillies, Romano suddenly looked like the closer the Phillies had been hoping for as he forced a ground ball, flyball and logged a strikeout to shut the door.

Max Fried (P - NYY)
4/28/25 5:19 AM - Yankees Devin Williams offers 4-word response to losing closer role. The New York Yankees are off to a strong start behind a new-look roster for 2025, though some additions haven't panned out as hoped. Free agent signing Max Fried has been even better than expected, posting a 1.43 ERA across five wins in his first six starts. Then there is Cody Bellinger, who arrived via trade from the Chicago Cubs to the tune of a -0.1 WAR so far. After three straight sub-2.00 ERA seasons, Williams has been hit for a 11.25 ERA in his first eight innings with the Yankees, prompting manager Aaron Boone to remove him from the closer role before the team's Sunday matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Luke Weaver (P - NYY)
4/28/25 4:01 AM - How Yankees' Luke Weaver used World Series low point to fuel perfect start to this season. Of all the clutch moments and big-time performances from Luke Weaver during his stint as the Yankees' closer last fall, the right-hander learned the most from one of his club's lowest points in the playoffs. After the disastrous events that unfolded in the fifth inning of Game 5 in the World Series, it was Weaver who was on the mound when the Dodgers tied the game and retook the lead in the eighth. Weaver, who is back to closing games for the Yankees after Devin Williams' well-deserved demotion, had entered with the bases loaded and nobody out in relief of Tommy Kahnle. Kahnle was responsible for those runners, so he was charged with the earned runs and the loss.

Aroldis Chapman (P - BOS)
4/28/25 3:56 AM - Might Red Sox' longterm closer be their adaptable 'strike thrower' up to 98.5 mph?. Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman is 16th all-time in saves with 339, just two behind Hall of Famer Rollie Fingers (341). Chapman thinks teammate Justin Slaten can do the job for a long time, too. “He has the ability to do it,” Chapman said through translator Carlos Villoria Benítez here at Progressive Field. The Red Sox have to look no further than their 2025 roster for their closer in 2026 and beyond.

Tigers ace left-hander Tarik Skubal validated his reputation as the top pitcher in the American League and anchored a 7-0 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday that enabled Detroit to complete a season-long homestand at 8-2. Skubal tossed six shutout innings and recorded 11 strikeouts as the Tigers capped a three-game sweep of the Orioles. Now, they'll embark on a season-long 10-game road trip that starts Monday with the opener of a three-game series against the Houston Astros.

J.C. Escarra (C - NYY)
4/28/25 3:31 AM - Yankees rookie has unforgettable night, but he's more than feel-good story. J.C. Escarra repeated it back to himself, standing in the Yankees' clubhouse on Sunday night. Maybe it was Escarra's way of pinching himself, making sure the ball he was holding was real and that the 415-foot moonshot he crushed to the bleachers in right-center an hour or so earlier wasn't a figment of his imagination. After all, Escarra had been dreaming about his first big-league home run — while wearing pinstripes — for as long as he can remember. Unless you're Bryce Harper or Paul Skenes, even the highest-ranked prospects and first-round draft picks spend years in the minor leagues.
