8/07/24 Twins catcher Christian Vazquez hitting again, finally. CHICAGO — There are a lot of professional resources for professional baseball players these days. Not only do major league teams have a phalanx of in-house pitching and hitting coaches, they often work with private coaches and facilities. And when Christian Vazquez got to June this season hitting well under .200, the Twins catcher left no stone unturned. When the Twins traveled to Phoenix and ...

7/08/24 Twins' Christian Vazquez aims to ride momentum into matchup vs. White Sox. Minnesota Twins catcher Christian Vazquez is batting just .204 entering Monday night's three-game series opener against the host Chicago White Sox, but recent success has brightened his spirits. Vazquez hit a walk-off home run in the ninth inning against Houston Astros closer Josh Hader on Sunday and has three straight multi-hit games to open July. "The game is so hard, and you never can stop working, and I think that's where I'm at right now," Vazquez said.

7/07/24 Christian Vazquez hits walk-off homer as Twins take 2 of 3 from Astros. Christian Vazquez drove in all three runs for the Twins, including a walk-off home run against Josh Hader, as Minnesota beat the Houston Astros, 3-2, in front of 28,056 at Target Field on Sunday. Vazquez was facing the Astros' left-handed closer when he spanked a high fly ball to left that just looped over the wall. The Twins won 2 of 3 from Houston, which entered the series having won 13 of 15 games, and improved to a season-high 12 games over .500.

1/30/24 2023 In Review: Wilyer Abreu or Won't-Yer Abreu?. The return from the Christian Vazquez trade is looking pretty good. Enmanuel Valdez, a power hitter who is a versatile fielder, at least, though not a particularly sound one, got the early headlines at second base. Wilyer Abreu, who would eventually be named to the postseason Triple-A All-Star team for Worcester (and would become a dad in August!), got the call to the Majors late in the season and used his opportunity to make a name for himself, as well. Abreu's runs above average value was below average on every other pitch he was offered.

11/23/23 MLB rumors: Twins looking to make Christian Vazquez trade. The Minnesota Twins are reportedly looking to trade catcher Christian Vazquez, per Robert Murray of FanSided. Murray shared the report while speaking on Foul Territory Wednesday, stating that Minnesota wants to cut payroll by trading players. “One of them has been Christian Vazquez according to sources who have spoken with the Twins.” “I don't necessarily know what the likelihood of a trade is but when he was a free agent last year, he ended up garnering pretty strong interest from the Padres,” Murray continued.

8/01/23 What we're hearing about the Red Sox ahead of Tuesday's MLB trade deadline. Much like last season, it looks like the Red Sox would like to be buyers AND sellers at Tuesday's 6 p.m. trade deadline. Last year, Bloom sent away catcher and clubhouse leader Christian Vazquez ahead of the deadline, which sent the wrong kind of message to the team. The Sox were still kinda, sorta in the playoff hunt when he made that move, but it greatly deflated the clubhouse and a tailspin ensued shortly after. Fast forward to this season, and while the Sox are way out of the AL East, they are very much in striking distance for a Wild Card spot.

7/26/23 Chaim Bloom Reflects On Lessons From 2022 Red Sox Deadline. The 2022 trade deadline featured both additions and subtractions for the Boston Red Sox. Whether it was the departure of former World Series champion Christian Vazquez or the arrival of rental outfielder Tommy Pham, the front office mixed both buying and selling at the deadline. With under a week to go until the 2023 trade deadline, chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom reflected on how lessons from a year ago with shape his own actions at the key date this season. “One thing we try to do is actually review it afterwards, whether we are high-fiving each other or sitting there with our arms folded,” Bloom told Chris Cotillo and Sean McAdam on MassLive's The Fenway Rundown podcast.

7/22/23 Michael A. Taylor comes up big to help Twins clip White Sox. Michael A. Taylor singled in the winning run in seventh inning and Christian Vazquez went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI as the Minnesota Twins rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday night in Minneapolis. Carlos Correa reached base four times with two hits and two walks and Jordan Balazovic (1-0) picked up his first major league victory with a hitless inning of relief for Minnesota, which improved to 7-2 since the All-Star break.

7/06/23 Tomase: Red Sox can't afford another wishy-washy trade deadline. Major League Baseball's trade deadline is really about one thing: looking in the mirror and being honest about what you see. Last year, the Red Sox butchered this exercise. First they saw an also-ran, so they dealt starting catcher Christian Vazquez across the diamond to the Astros while taking batting practice in Houston. Then they saw a contender, which led them to change course and swing deals for Tommy Pham and Eric Hosmer, while holding onto impending free agents Xander Bogaerts, Nathan Eovaldi, and J.D. Martinez, all of whom signed elsewhere.

6/22/23 Connor Wong Is Already One Of The Best Catchers In Baseball. If, at anytime within the past three years, you had told me that the Red Sox would have a catcher who was actually really good at throwing out baserunners, I would have laughed in your face. To be fair, Christian Vazquez was capable of having a pretty good year in that department, but he would then apparently forget how to throw a ball the next, swinging between positive and negative defensive run values. Connor Wong hasn't even had a full season yet, but so far he looks great on the defensive end and all we can hope for is consistency. Wong ranks fourth in Major League Baseball in catcher pop time, Caught Stealing Above Average, and Catcher Stealing Runs (translation of CSAA in run value).

6/15/23 Twins' Christian Vazquez working to recapture his swing. Christian Vazquez was out on Target Field early on Thursday, surrounded by Twins coaches and taking a long individual batting practice session. Vazquez, a World Series champion with Boston (2018) and Houston (2022), has always been a good-hitting catcher, entering this season with a career batting average of .266.

5/30/23 Twins' Christian Vazquez receives his World Series ring from Astros. Christian Vazquez's time in Houston was brief, but the few months he spent with the Astros were packed with meaning for the catcher. With his family in town, Vazquez received his World Series ring in a pregame ceremony on Tuesday. After the Astros played a tribute video, manager Dusty Baker slipped the ring on Vazquez's right ring finger as he held his oldest son, Diego, in his left arm.

4/24/23 Twins 6, Yankees 1: A beautiful Sonny day. Predictably, the Twins just needed to see the Yankees to put together a complete game on both sides of the ball. After losing six of their last eight games, the Twins welcomed the hated New York Yankees to town and proceeded to dominate all nine innings on Monday at Target Field. The Twins scored first after loading the bases in the bottom of the third inning on a Christian Vazquez walk and singles from Michael A. Taylor and Max Kepler.

4/19/23 Red Sox Links: An Old Friend Returned to Fenway. Christian Vazquez returned to Fenway on Tuesday night for the first time as a visitor. Before his first at-bat, the Red Sox played a thank-you video and Vazquez received a huge ovation. Alex Verdugo has been a bright spot for the Red Sox this year, thanks in part to a new approach at the plate. Alex Cora and Verdugo spoke about the changes and how it's helped the outfielder so far this season.

4/18/23 Twins squander two-run lead in bizarre 10th inning, lose to Red Sox. BOSTON — Christian Vazquez received a warm ovation Tuesday in his first game back to Fenway, his former home park. A catcher's interference penalty that the Red Sox declined — yes, just like in football — turned into the game-tying run, and a third strike that skipped underneath Vazquez sparked Boston's three-run, 10th-inning rally. The result was Minnesota's third straight loss, 5-4 in a ballpark that seems to inspire the bizarre every time the Twins are here. Alex Verdugo hit a fly ball that bounced off the padding just beyond the right-field foul pole, a fair ball that drove in Reece McGuire with the game-winning run in Boston's strange-then-stranger 5-4 victory.
