4/06/24 Crazy Chris Martin stat proves how wildly underrated he is for Red Sox. Reliever Chris Martin had an incredible 2023 season for the Boston Red Sox that flew under the radar. Martin's 2023 ERA was 1.05, the lowest qualifying ERA in MLB last year. His performance received little fanfare from national media, likely because the Red Sox weren't in the running for any prizes. After four outings in 2024, Martin's ERA sat at zero and his push for the franchise record for the most consecutive scoreless relief appearances continued. The veteran reliever entered a rollercoaster of a game in the bottom of the seventh inning with a 24-game scoreless streak.

4/05/24 Chris Martin continues scoreless run out of Red Sox bullpen that dates to July. “What Marty has done, pitching in high-leverage situations, facing the best of the best whenever he goes out there — that's his pocket, and he's been great,” Sox manager Alex Cora said. A year ago, Martin got off to a slow start, landed on the injured list in April with shoulder fatigue, then was almost perfect for the rest of the season. “Hopefully he stays healthy,” Cora said. Liam Hendriks's locker in the visitors clubhouse was festooned with gold streamers and balloons.

4/04/24 Why Chris Martin's Red Sox Dominance Should Not Be Taken For Granted. Chris Martin keeps showing why he's worth every penny for the Boston Red Sox from the two-year deal he signed before the 2023 season. Martin immediately stepped in to solidify the bullpen as a consistent strike-thrower and pave the way to closer Kenley Jansen in the ninth inning. The veteran reliever posted an astounding 1.05 ERA in 55 appearances with the Red Sox in 2023, allowing eight earned runs walking just eight batters the entire season with 46 strikeouts. The outstanding season earned the righty a Cy Young award vote.

3/21/24 How Kenley Jansen, Chris Martin Fared In Red Sox Ramp Up. The Boston Red Sox needed to see signs of progress from their elite bullpen combination in hopes of being ready for Opening Day. Chris Martin and Kenley Jansen have both dealt with injuries during spring training. Martin battled groin tightness while Jansen has worked through both shoulder and lat issues. With hopes of being ready for the start of the season in Seattle against the Mariners on March 28, both right-handers made spring training appearances on Thursday against the Baltimore Orioles.

Red Sox setup man Chris Martin was up to 95-96 mph during a minor league game Tuesday on the backfields here at JetBlue Park. “I saw the velo,” Martin said. Martin didn't pitch in a spring training game until Tuesday because groin tightness slowed him down. “I was trying to get glove-side and they weren't letting me get glove-side,” Martin said.

Not only do they draft and develop as well as anyone, but they also help revive the careers of veteran pitchers. In the past, they have helped relievers Chris Martin and Shelby Miller reach free agency and sign lucrative deals after a year in Los Angeles. 2/28/24 Kenley Jansen is staying in the moment, but it's hard to envision a place for him with these Red Sox. In fact, in the morning hours before a workout Wednesday at JetBlue Park, Jansen is impossible to miss. One of the oldest (36, second to Chris Martin's 37) and most veteran players by service (13-plus years) on the current roster, Jansen is well-liked among teammates, friendly and outgoing, as hard-working as he is talented.

11/16/23 How Cy Young Voting Showed Value For Red Sox's Chris Martin. Sign In While the Boston Red Sox had a disappointing season as a team in 2023, one reliever led a talented bullpen to shine. In his age-37 season, Chris Martin simply dominated as the setup man for closer Kenley Jansen. After bouncing around to contenders over the last three seasons, Martin came to Boston to a group needing to throw more strikes and lock down games. The veteran right-hander did just that. In 55 outings, Martin went 4-1 with a 1.05 ERA in 51 1/3 innings. Martin walked just eight batters all season long and constantly kept opposing offenses of the scoreboard. At one point during the summer , Martin went 17 consecutive scoreless outings and ended the season with another 20 scoreless

Surprising Red Sox Star Reportedly To Miss Rest Of Season Due To Infection Boston got some bad news Thursday involving one of its star pitchers Author: Patrick McAvoy Publish date: Sep 28, 2023 3:29 PM EDT In this story: Boston Red Sox The Boston Red Sox will be without the services of arguably their best relief pitcher for the final four games of the 2023 season. Boston landed journeyman reliever Chris Martin this past offseason in free agency and he surprisingly developed into the club's best pitcher out of the bullpen. Martin had a historic season for the Red Sox but will miss the final four games of the season due to a viral infection, according to MassLive.com's Chris Cotillo.

9/23/23 Dylan Cease aims to help White Sox bounce back vs. Red Sox. The visiting Chicago White Sox will attempt to end their three-game losing streak on Saturday when they face the Boston Red Sox in the second game of a three-game series. Boston scored twice in the eighth inning to overcome a 2-1 deficit and post a 3-2 victory on Friday night. The Red Sox (76-78)entered the series with six losses in their past seven games. "It's good to see that grit and grind even though we're eliminated (from playoff contention)," said Boston reliever Chris Martin, who earned the save Friday night.

9/22/23 Chris Martin Earns 20th-Consecutive Scoreless Outing This Season. The Boston Red Sox earned their 40th comeback win in their 3-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox, following a disappointing series loss on the road against Texas. While the Red Sox have much to develop this off-season, one positive takeaway from this year has been in the bullpen, with Chris Martin earning his 20th-consecutive scoreless outing Friday night. Martin yet again shut it down in the ninth inning and his season stats prove him to be one of the strongest relievers across the league this year. For more, check out the vide above from “Red Sox Extra-Innings,” presented by W.B. Mason.

9/19/23 With Red Sox in Texas, reliever Chris Martin reflects on journey that has brought him full circle. After two years with Nippon Ham, he returned to the States by signing a two-year deal with the Rangers for 2018-19. “Obviously, being as far away from home as I was for two years, I would have definitely taken less money to go to be home,” Martin recalled. Martin was 31 with 40 MLB appearances on his résumé when he signed that deal. Did he imagine then that over the next six years, he'd pitch in 283 more big league games, forging a 2.99 ERA, winning a World Series ring, and going on the best run of his career — 19 straight scoreless appearances and counting entering Tuesday, dropping his ERA to 1.07 (third lowest in Sox history) — at 37 years old?

8/20/23 We finally were treated to a classic Red Sox-Yankees thriller. The Red Sox won, of course, because that is what they do against the Yankees this season. “I don't know how we won that game but I'm glad we did,” said reliever Chris Martin, who allowed the go-ahead run in the eighth inning before a replay review took it away from the Yankees. The Sox led 5-2 before Yankees rookie Anthony Volpe woke the crowd with a three-run homer in the seventh off John Schreiber. Volpe singled again in the eighth inning with Isiah Kiner-Falefa on first and two outs.

8/17/23 Ex-Yankees pitcher's 'survival mode' lesson fuels 'late-career renaissance'. The Chris Martin who pitched for the New York Yankees in 2015 would've probably never guessed dominance would come this way, in his mid-to-late 30s. Because the Martin who got released by the Yankees in Nov. 2015 after a season in which he gave up 13 earned runs in 20 2/3 innings and had a 1.65 WHIP needed a reset after accumulating a 6.19 ERA in two seasons. “Survival mode,” Martin, now with the Red Sox, told The Boston Globe.
