4/28/24 Hitter Profiles: To Buy Or Not to Buy…. It is time for one of our favorite traditions here with hitter profiles as we debate early season performance and identify some buy or sell candidates at current ownership rates.  This week, we will dig through a few of the leaderboards trying to find players with hot starts and figure out if we have struck gold or are simply fools in waiting.  With all of the injuries so far this season, owners are rushing to fill lineup holes and anybody that is off to a hot start may seem like a lineup mainstay when they should really be trade bait.  Last season, we had a Matt Chapman return to glory only to scuttle for much of the year.  On the flip side, James Outman was able to sustain the results all season providing a huge lift for fantasy owners that jumped on the train early.  Let’s dive into three intriguing players as we close out the first month of the 2024 fantasy baseball season.

4/07/24 Matt Chapman keys late rally for Giants in 3-2 comeback win over Padres.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Matt Chapman drove in two runs, including a go-ahead single in the eighth inning that led the San Francisco Giants over the San Diego Padres 3-2 on Sunday for their first series win this season.

San Diego led 2-0 before Chapman's RBI groundout in the sixth on a potential inning-inning, double-play grounder to Jake Cronenworth. The first baseman stepped on the base, then threw to second only for the ball to bounce off the glove of shortstop Ha-Seong Kim, who had cut in front of the bag. That ended the Giants' 14-inning scoreless streak.

Wilmer Flores singled with one out in the eighth off Jhony Brito, Jorge Soler singled and Michael Conforto hit a run-scoring grounder. Confoto followed with an opposite-field single to right that scored Soler standing up.

Brito (0-2) allowed a pair of unearned runs in his second decision since San Diego acquired him from the New York Yankees in the Juan Soto trade.

Camilo Doval allowed a two-out single to Jackson Merrill, then struck out Luis Campuasano for his first save after tying for the NL lead with 39 last year.

Cronenworth hit an RBI double in the first on a drive over Jung Hoo Lee and high off the center-field wall. Kim added a run-scoring single in the sixth.

Ryan Walker (1-0) pitched a hitless inning in relief of Logan Webb, who allowed two runs in seven innings.

San Francisco drew 40,149 in its third straight sellout, matching its 2023 total.

4/05/24 Thairo Estrada walks off Padres to give SF Giants dramatic win in home opener. A sellout crowd roared and rose to its feet Friday afternoon as Matt Chapman rounded third and raced home, sliding headfirst to score on Thairo Estrada's walkoff double, but possibly none of the 40,645 on hand were as relieved as Michael Conforto to see the winning run cross the plate. Thrown out on the bases in the third inning, Conforto made one of a handful of mental errors from the home team that nearly soured the first game this season on the shores of McCovey Cove.

4/01/24 Kurtenbach: 3 up, 3 down from the Giants' season-opening series. All in all, the Giants ended the first series of the year as you would have predicted: .500. No, it was a roller coaster ride of emotion, featuring the best and worst the Giants had to offer, all in one long weekend. The Padres have a player who can do it — Fernando Tatis Jr. On Friday night, the perennial MVP candidate hit two home runs (including one that was impossible) and flashed serious leather in right field, where he won the Platinum Glove last season. Matt Chapman also hit two home runs Friday.
