"We've been playing good baseball," Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber said. 5/09/24 PARENT: Phillies have deep and powerful team that fans can get excited about. Dare to shrug away the fact that in 10 of the previous 11 Phillies games, and even 18 of the last 21 … they won. No matter how brightly the sun is shining on the South Philadelphia baseball landscape, it's still May, and it is indeed a marathon rather than a sprint in this sport. “I don't think you're going to look around the room here and see any happy faces,” Kyle Schwarber said after a ninth-inning Phillies comeback attempt yielded a run but ended with two runners in scoring position. The last two years, the Phillies appreciated the length of the season, which gave them ample opportunity to recover from relatively slow starts.

5/09/24 'You don't see many grizzly bears with an eight-pack': Why Kyle Schwarber is moving better this year. Kyle Schwarber is known for his power, not his speed, but he has been moving around better this season. The Phillies' designated hitter went into the offseason wanting to be intentional with his mobility work. While there is no difference in Schwarber's sprint speed — 25 feet per second, which is the same mark he posted in 2023 — there are indicators that he is more explosive, is taking more risks, and is being rewarded for them. Schwarber has stolen two bases this season (with one caught stealing), and has taken extra bases at a rate of 53%, compared to 30% in 2023.

5/02/24 Phillies news and rumors 5/2: Kyle Schwarber handles first opportunity in left field of season. Kyle Schwarber is a Designated Hitter with a capital D and a capital H. His defense last season was disastrous, and the Phillies lineup has made much more sense since the slugger slid into the DH role once Bryce Harper was cleared to play first base last summer. Still, Schwarber seems to take pride in […]
