10/31/23 Ranking the Rockies: No. 34, Tyler Kinley. Welcome to the 2023 edition of Ranking the Rockies, where we take a look back at every player to log playing time for the Rockies in 2023. The 2023 season was a rough one, mostly marked by battling back from an injury, for Tyler Kinley. Kinley spent 13 months rehabbing from a right elbow surgery to return to the Rockies on Aug. 1. In the final two months of the season, Kinley pitched in 18 games, posting a 6.06 ERA in 16 1/3 innings.

9/29/23 Rockies hit three homers but lose, 7-6, to Twins in the ninth inning. Before Friday night's postgame fireworks at Coors Field, the Twins and Rockies put on a pyrotechnic show that rocked LoDo. In the end, however, the game was just another dud for the Rockies, who lost for the 102nd time this season. Minnesota scratched out the winning run in the ninth off Tyler Kinley for a 7-6 victory. Ryan Jeffers led off the ninth with a single to left and was replaced by pinch-runner Andrew Stevenson.

7/17/23 Rockies' Tyler Kinley, nearing return from injury, has dominant stuff. Before his elbow injury, and before he spent 13 months rehabbing, Tyler Kinley was not just a good relief pitcher. • A 16.7% swinging-strike rate that hinted at even more strikeouts to come. No wonder the Rockies' right-hander is so jazzed to begin his minor-league rehab assignment this week. “Hopefully, it will be about two weeks or so and I'll be back here,” Kinley said Sunday from the Rockies clubhouse at Coors Field.

5/24/22 Hayes has 3 hits, scores go-ahead run as Pirates top Rockies.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Ke’Bryan Hayes had three hits and scored the tiebreaking run on Yoshi Tsutsugo’s infield single in the eighth inning as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Colorado Rockies 2-1 on Monday night.

Hayes singled to lead off the eighth against Tyler Kinley (1-1), stole second base and advanced to third on Daniel Vogelbach’s groundout. Tsutsugo then beat out a slow bouncer to second base, enabling Hayes to score.

Hayes was happy to manufacture a run, especially after the Pirates had been 2 for 12 with runners in scoring position before Tsutsugo’s hit.

“It’s hard to get runs at this level,” Hayes said. “We’re not a team that’s going to hit three or four home runs in a game. We’re just trying to keep the line moving and get those big hits whenever we can and move guys over.”

Despite numerous pickoff throws from Kinley, Hayes was determined to steal his way into scoring position.

“After a few deliveries to home, his times to the plate were in my favor,” Hayes said. “I kind of shortened my lead up, just in case, so I didn’t get picked off because I knew with his times, I would be able to get there easier.”

David Bednar (1-0) escaped a first-and-second jam in the eighth to keep the game tied at 1. He followed with a scoreless ninth.

Josh VanMeter added two hits for the Pirates, who had lost three straight games. Connor Joe had two hits for the Rockies.

Pirates starter JT Brubaker gave up only one unearned run in 6 2/3 innings on five hits yet remained winless in nine starts this season. He struck out four and walked two after notching a career-high 10 strikeouts in his previous start in a loss to the Chicago Cubs.

Brubaker’s throwing error led to the Rockies eventually scoring their run in the fourth inning on...

5/17/22 Rockies' Tyler Kinley, displaying a sharp slider, shining in the bullpen: “Now's he's pitching”. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a guy who wants the ball quite as much as Tyler does. If he goes three days without pitching he gets mad. If the Rockies could actually use Kinley every night, he would be a huge boost to their bullpen.

10/12/21 Rockies' end-of-season bullpen analysis: Lots of holes to fill, including at closer. He lost his job as the closer because he issued too many walks (4.93 per nine) and he ended up blowing eight saves in 28 chances. There’s no doubt Bard can wipe out hitters (10.96 strikeouts per nine) but until he harnesses his firepower, it will be difficult to trust him. Grade: D RHP Tyler Kinley (3-2, 4.73, 70 1/3 innings) A case can be made that Kinley, who led Rockies relievers in innings pitched, was Colorado’s best reliever.

9/16/21 Tapia's tiebreaking single in 10th sends Rockies over Braves.

ATLANTA (AP) — Rockies reliever Tyler Kinley knew the wet conditions were going to make it tough to grip the ball. That didn't stop him and the Colorado bullpen from shutting down the Atlanta Braves.

“There's not going to be any stat line that's going to say it was wet out there or the ball was slippery or it's been raining for six hours," Kinley said after pitching a scoreless eighth inning. “We said we need to figure this out and get through it."

Raimel Tapia hit a tiebreaking single off A.J. Minter in the 10th inning, scoring Colton Welker from third base and lifting Colorado to a 3-2 victory over Atlanta on Wednesday night.

Atlanta’s NL East lead was trimmed to 3½ games over Philadelphia as the Braves attempt to win the division for the fourth straight year. Colorado was 28 games back in the NL West.

Robert Stephenson earned his first save in two chances in the bottom of the 10th, striking Austin Riley, hitting Adam Duvall with a pitch, striking out Travis d’Arnaud and getting Dansby Swanson to pop up.

“They did great in a game that you had to do great," Colorado manager Bud Black said. “In a low-scoring game, on the road, against a division leader, in their ballpark, in the rain, on a long night, I’m proud of our guys. I’m proud of our bullpen. I’m proud of our players."

The game was played throughout in a steady drizzle, and the grounds crew spent much of the night between innings pouring dirt and raking the infield, mound and home plate area.

Welker, who began the 10th on second base for Colorado, advanced on a groundout and crossed the plate when Tapia, a late-inning replacement, drove the ball into left field.

Minter (2-6) took the loss. Carlos Estévez (3-4) faced five batters in the ninth to earn the win.

The Rockies scored twice in the fifth to take a 2-1...
