2/24/24 LOOK: Jays' Tim Mayza fulfills fantasy punishment by serving as bat boy for spring training game. The Toronto pitcher also wore a special jersey number for the occasion

2/23/24 Blue Jays pitcher to be team's bat boy after finishing last in fantasy football. Lefty relief pitcher Tim Mayza may be one of the longest-tenured members at any level of the Toronto Blue Jays organization, but that hasn't exempted the veteran from the odd silly punishment or two. Mayza has been with the Blue Jays organization since 2013, and is probably not too worried about carrying out duties often passed on to younger players. According to Scott Mitchell of TSN, the 32-year-old will be operating as the team's bat boy for three innings tomorrow in their spring training opener, in full uniform, as a result of placing last in the league.

4/09/23 Blue Jays vs. Angels - MLB Game Recap - 9 April 2023. ANAHEIM, Calif. -- — Tim Mayza retired Shohei Ohtani with the bases loaded for the final out, and the Toronto Blue Jays got five RBI apiece from Matt Chapman and Kevin Kiermaier to beat the Los Angeles Angels 12-11 in 10 innings Sunday. Chapman hit a grand slam in the sixth and Kiermaier doubled home the tiebreaking run in the 10th for the Blue Jays, who overcame an early six-run deficit before blowing a late four-run lead in a wild slugfest.

12/29/22 Tim Mayza gave up Aaron Judge’s 61st home run. Why his moment of failure was actually a triumph.
The Blue Jays reliever allowed one of the most famous home runs in major league history. It took a long time for him to learn how to accept the truth of that moment

9/29/22 Judge ties Maris AL mark with 61st HR, lifts Yanks over Jays.

TORONTO (AP) — When Tim Mayza made a mistake pitch, Aaron Judge made sure the Blue Jays left-hander wound up on the wrong end of history.

Judge tied Roger Maris’ American League record of 61 home runs in a season with a tiebreaking, two-run drive in the seventh inning that lifted the New York Yankees over the Toronto Blue Jays 8-3 on Wednesday night.

Mayza said he was trying to attack Judge with sinkers in the hopes of inducing a ground ball, but missed his spot.

“Just one too many good pitches over the plate to a really good hitter,” Mayza said.

The 30-year-old slugger drove a 94.5 mph belt-high sinker with a full-count from Mayza (8-1) over the left-field fence at Rogers Centre. The 117.4 mph drive took just 3.8 seconds to land 394 feet from the plate, and it put the Yankees ahead 5-3.

“When I hit it, I thought I got enough, but it’s been a couple of games since I did that,” Judge said.

Judge watched the ball clank off the front of the stands, just below two fans who reached over a railing and tried for a catch. He pumped an arm just before reaching first and exchanged a slap with coach Travis Chapman.

The ball dropped into Toronto’s bullpen and was picked up by Blue Jays bullpen coach Matt Buschmann, who turned it over to the Yankees.

Judge’s mother and Roger Maris Jr. rose and hugged from front-row seats. He appeared to point toward them after rounding second base, then was congratulated by the entire Yankees team, who gave him hugs after he crossed the plate.

“As soon as he hit it I was like ‘OK, that’s gone,’” Maris Jr. said. “Then it was just a matter of enjoying him run the bases and giving his mom a big old hug and just enjoying the moment.”

9/28/22 Aaron Judge hits 61st home run to finally catch Roger Maris for AL mark. Getting a chance to sit at 60 for a while there with the Babe was nice,” he said, “but getting a chance to now sit at 61 with another Yankee right fielder that hit 61 home runs and MVPs, world champions, this is pretty cool. Judge has seven games to break the record, starting with a series opener against Baltimore at Yankee Stadium on Friday night. His 117.4mph drive off left-hander Tim Mayza (8-1) snapped a 3-3 tie and took just 3.8 seconds to land 394 feet from the plate.

9/27/22 Aaron Judge's mom not happy Blue Jays intentionally walked son. Aaron Judge’s mom seemed none too pleased about her son being intentionally walked on Monday night. Patty Judge, who made the trip to Toronto as her son remains one home run shy of matching Roger Maris’ team and AL record of 61, shook her head as the Blue Jays intentionally walked her son in a 2-2 game in the 10th inning with runners on first and second to load the bases with two outs. Toronto had just brought in lefty Tim Mayza to replace righty Anthony Bass.

8/31/22 Mitch White has a Bad Day, Jays Lose. Tim Mayza looked particularly good, which is nice to see because he hasn’t been good since returning from the IL. On offence, we got five runs, so can’t complain too much. We had 7 hits, but 2 of them were home runs.

8/06/22 Jays lose Mayza to Injury and Game to Twins. Blue Jays 3 Twins 7 The really bad news is that Tim Mayza suffered a shoulder dislocation in a collision at the plate. Leon put down a squeeze bunt with Nick Gordon on third and Sandy Leon at the plate. Mayza came running in and tried to grab the ball and make a tag all in one motion.

8/04/22 Guerrero Hits 3 Run Homer, Jays Beat Twins. And we got an inning from Tim Mayza, Yimi Garcia and new Jay Anthony Bass (who did give up a solo homer but then didn’t throw anything that didn’t move, I enjoyed watching him, but I had a couple of beer by that point). On offense.... well we had some trouble against Sonny Gray.

5/04/22 The Pitch that Changed Tim Mayza's Career and the Confidence it Brings. A sinker/slider swingman, it was Gaviglio who taught Tim Mayza the two-seam pitch that's become such a dominant weapon out of the Toronto bullpen. As throwing partners in the 2019 season, Gaviglio and Mayza tinkered and toyed with the southpaw's new pitch, working with coaches and catchers to morph the standard two-seamer into the arm action and grip that now comprise the dominant delivery that changed Mayza's career.

9/29/21 Joey Gallo hit by pitch against Toronto Blue Jays as New York Yankees await results of X-rays. Gallo was unable to bat in the ninth inning after being hit by a Tim Mayza pitch in the seventh. "He's getting X-rays on everything, and we'll see what we have when we get that," manager Aaron Boone said. "He couldn't hit, and we took him out of the game, so we'll see what we have now that we'll have X-rays, and we'll see what happens overnight."
