5/05/24 Cards look to rebound after missed opportunity vs. White Sox. St. Louis loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the 10th inning before White Sox reliever John Brebbia struck out Lars Nootbaar and Masyn Winn as a torrential downpour hit Busch Stadium. Brebbia recorded a strike on Nolan Gorman before he walked off the mound and protested the rapidly deteriorating conditions. "The at-bats obviously needed to be better," Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said.

5/04/24 White Sox game in rain delay with one out left in extra innings. The White Sox encountered a rain delay in St. Louis at an extremely inconvenient moment. The officials called for the grounds crew to roll out the tarps in the bottom of the 10th inning, as the White Sox were one out away from winning the game. John Brebbia has an 0-1 count on Nolan Gorman with two outs in possibly...

4/08/24 White Sox' John Brebbia lands on injured list; Jared Shuster recalled from Charlotte. White Sox right-handed reliever John Brebbia landed the 15-day injured list (retroactive to April 6) with a right calf strain Monday and the club recalled left-hander Jared Shuster from Triple-A Charlotte. The expectation is that Brebbia, who had a recurrence Friday in Kansas City of a calf strain suffered during spring training, will return by April 22. “It's not as bad as the one in the spring,” manager Pedro Grifol said. Brebbia has appeared in four games, logging 2 2/3 scoreless innings.

3/27/24 White Sox set Opening Day roster. The White Sox Opening Day roster was made official after the team worked out at Guaranteed Rate Field Wednesday in advance of Opening Day. As reported Monday, the Sox will open with nine relievers, not needing a fifth starter until their sixth game next Wednesday, against the Braves. The bullpen includes right-handers John Brebbia, Deivi García, Michael Kopech, Jordan Leasure, Dominic Leone, Bryan Shaw and Steven Wilson and lefties Tanner Banks and Tim Hill.

3/22/24 White Sox righty John Brebbia takes important step toward Opening Day. Having John Brebbia in the bullpen from the get-go would be a welcome development for a unit that enters 2024 without an indentified closer and, as manager Pedro Grifol said Thursday, some uncertainty about its constitution days before Opening Day. Brebbia's clean inning of work in relief Thursday against the Royals was a significant stepping stone to that end. After straining his right calf during a live batting practice session early in camp, Brebbia is on the mend and was declaring himself ready to go, barring a setback. “I want to get out there and be healthy and I felt good throwing,” Brebbia said.

2/22/24 White Sox reliever John Brebbia out with right calf strain; lefty Shane Drohan has shoulder surgery. The White Sox' sizable flock of working pitchers in camp has taken a trim, from 36 to 33 including one or two notable compoments. Veteran right-hander John Brebbia, signed to a one-year, $5.5 million contract as a free agent and expected to be a valued late-inning option for manager Pedro Grifol, sustained a right calf strain throwin live batting practice Wednesday that left him wheeling out of the Sox' complex at Camelback Ranch Thursday on a scooter.

1/29/24 White Sox: Details of Chicago's 1-year deal with John Brebbia emerge. The Chicago White Sox are amid efforts to improve their team after a subpar 2023 showing. Thus, the team made a decisive MLB Free Agency move on former St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants relief pitcher John Brebbia. The deal should be beneficial for both sides with Brebbia getting a new role and Chicago getting another bullpen upgrade.

1/22/24 John Brebbia signs with White Sox. The Giants did not make any moves over the weekend, and haven't really done anything since the exciting news that they're bringing back Dusty Baker. Brebbia parlayed a very nice 2023 into a lovely payday with Chicago, where he's guaranteed at least $5.5 million. It always seemed most likely that Brebbia would be finding a new home this offseason. The Giants clearly liked him, but also have a limited need for relievers, and seemed unlikely to reunite with a good-not-great arm that didn't have options.

10/31/23 Spooky numbers to describe the Giants' season. This year, with John Brebbia, Ryan Walker, Scott Alexander, and Jakob Junis being the unconventional quartet of first inning pitchers, the Giants went 18-17 and the bullpen gamers posted a 3.88 ERA and 4.11 runs per game. For context, Alex Cobb had a 3.87 ERA in 151 IP and the Giants went 18-10 in his starts. Hitting platoons, on the other hand... look, there are simply few things on this planet that are scarier than the lineup of a San Francisco Giants team in any given season.

10/19/23 Player Review: John Brebbia. Back in 2019, the San Francisco Giants saw something in John Brebbia: he had a great slider. Problem was, he pitched for the Cardinals, who followed a more traditional model of establishing the fastball to setup the secondary pitch(es). What Farhan Zaidi's new front office brough to the franchise was this simple thought: what if a pitcher threw his best pitch more often? It took until Brebbia was granted free agent after the 2020 season and in the middle of recovering from Tommy John surgery to put their knowledge into practice and when they signed him knowing he'd be rehabbing for at least half the first season, they did so knowing full well that once he came back in the following season that the rehab plus coaching would make him formidable.

9/27/23 SF Giants News: Giants are eliminated. The San Francisco Giants are now eliminated from playoff contention. For those checking the standings, it might not look like it's over, but as Maria Guardado of MLB.com clarifies, there is no scenario in which the Giants come out ahead of any of the teams they've been chasing. The Giants did not play like they wanted postseason baseball down the stretch. One of the lone bright spots of this season has been the emergence of John Brebbia's sense of humor.

9/21/23 Dodgers capitalize on Giants' physical and mental blunders to win 7-2. J.D. Martinez’s sacrifice fly drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning and the Los Angeles Dodgers capitalized on two physical and one mental blunder by the San Francisco Giants to win 7-2 Thursday night in the series opener. The Giants have dropped six of seven on their road trip to fall further out of the NL wild-card race. Will Smith tripled off John Brebbia (3-1) and Martinez followed with the fly to right.
