4/12/24 NL MVP odds, pick: Why Brewers' Christian Yelich is a good futures bet. Commercial Content. 21+. Action Network is the official betting partner of the New York Post, which edits this content. When the Brewers lost Brandon Woodruff to a shoulder injury last fall and then traded Corbin Burnes to the Orioles for prospects in February, the way their teams had been built under Craig Counsell were forced to change. And when Counsell left to manage the Cubs, Pat Murphy inherited a club that was in full transition. No longer would it rely on stud-laden pitching at the top of the rotation and a bullpen that had won five of the last six Trevor Hoffman awards. Instead, Brewers GM Matt Arnold fortified a lineup of hitters by signing Rhys Hoskins and Gary Sanchez in free agency

3/24/24 Brewers' Woodruff to skip season, targets 2025. Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff says he won't pitch this season while he recovers from surgery to his throwing shoulder. When Woodruff underwent the surgery in October, the Brewers said the two-time All-Star was expected to miss most, if not all, of the season. Woodruff told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel last week that he won't pitch this year and is targeting a return in 2025. "Honestly, I'm going [to] be the strongest I'll ever be at any point in my career because I'm going [to] have a year and just basically get my body ready for pitching," Woodruff told the newspaper.

2/21/24 Woodruff staying with Brewers on backloaded 2-year deal worth $17.5 million. Brandon Woodruff is staying with the Milwaukee Brewers after all. The right-hander has finalized a backloaded $17.5 million, two-year contract with Milwaukee that includes a mutual option for the 2026 season. The deal was completed three months after the Brewers allowed the injured pitcher to test free agency rather than tendering him a contract for 2024. “I've still got a lot of, I guess you could say unfinished business in a Brewers uniform,” Woodruff said Wednesday in a Zoom session with reporters.

2/20/24 Brewers bring back Woodruff. The Milwaukee Brewers haven't confirmed the deal yet but reports have them bringing back veteran pitcher Brandon Woodruff on a two year contract. Financial terms haven't been disclosed. Woodruff has been one of the mainstays of Milwaukee's pitching staff for years and the 31 year old was in top form down the stretch last season until he suffered another shoulder injury. It required surgery on October 13 and the rehabilitation is expected to take most, if not all of the 2024 season. The Brewers let Woodruff's contract expire at the end of the year. Even though he won't be able to take the mound, the team hopes he can be a mentor to what will be a much younger pitching staff with Corbin Burnes
