4/28/24 | Estrada, Yastrzemski hit back-to-back homers to lead Giants past Pirates, 3-2. Thairo Estrada and Mike Yastrzemski hit back-to-back home runs in the third inning, and rookie right-hander Keaton Winn delivered another strong start to lead the San Francisco Giants to a 3-2 victory and a series win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Rookie shortstop Tyler Fitzgerald added three hits for the Giants, who took two of three from the Pirates and finished their longest homestand of the season 6-4. Pittsburgh lost for the 10th time in its past 13 games. Winn (3-3) held the Pirates to one run over six innings, his line over the past three starts, all victories. 4/16/24 | Why SF Giants' extended Florida trip is special for their contingent of Latin players. As Thairo Estrada rounded third after his first of two home runs this week at Tropicana Field, he gestured to a contingent in Giants orange in the seats behind the visitors' dugout. There was his wife, Lorena, and his daughter, Arantza, but also a friend, Jhayme, taking advantage of a rare visit from Estrada and his ball club from faraway San Francisco. “We had very positive conversations — that's what I like to do — and he mentioned to me that during one of those three games, I was going to go deep,” Estrada said in Spanish through interpreter Erwin Higueros. The Giants may be far from home — further than anywhere they'll go this year — but for Estrada, of Venezuela, and many of his Latin teammates, the weeklong swing through the Sunshine State has been a revitalizing re-entrance into the culture they cherish and are most familiar. 4/13/24 | SF Giants turn power back on to beat Rays with 5 home runs. Somebody apparently paid the electricity bill because the Giants turned the power back on Saturday after a week in the dark. Seven of the Giants' runs in an 11-2 win over the Rays, evening their weekend series at a game apiece, came on a quintet of long balls — two from Thairo Estrada — snapping a seven-game homerless draught, the longest dry spell from the club in nearly a decade. Another pair was driven in on a bases-loaded single from Mike Yastrzemski, a rare base knock from a Giants hitter with runners in scoring position. With Logan Webb on the mound, timely hitting and a little power proved to be a winning formula. Source: https://www.mercurynews.com/2024/04/13/sf-giants-t... |
4/05/24 | Thairo Estrada provides heroics as Giants rally past Padres. Thairo Estrada gave the San Francisco Giants a walk-off win in their home opener Friday afternoon, lacing a one-out double to left-center field to score Matt Chapman from first base for a 3-2 victory over the San Diego Padres. The win completed a happy homecoming for new Giants manager Bob Melvin, the former Padres skipper who grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and played three of his 10 big-league seasons with the Giants. Chapman set the stage for Estrada's heroics by getting hit on the left elbow on a 1-2 pitch from Padres reliever Enyel De Los Santos (0-1).
