10/17/23 Blue Jays pitcher poses with pile of dead Canada geese he shot with his kid. The Toronto Blue Jays season came to a sudden end in October, and relief pitcher Erik Swanson marked the death of the birds' season by killing even more birds — at least 17 of them. Swanson shared a post on Instagram this past weekend, posing with one of his two children in front of the corpses of at least 17 Canada geese hunted by the pitcher in Roseau, Minnesota. As bad as the abrupt and disastrous postseason was for the Jays, we'd say these Canadian birds met a more violent end in Minnesota than the boys in blue did at the hand of the Twins earlier this month. Before anyone starts sharpening their pitchforks, hunting Canada geese is perfectly legal during the approved hunting season in Minnesota, from September 23 through December 22.

8/18/23 Jays pitcher relaxes in Manitoba lake country. There's no question that being a professional baseball pitcher can be stressful, especially when you are a late-inning, high-leverage reliever like Erik Swanson. Turns out Swanson is an adopted son of sorts, and the closest thing this province has had to local flavour on “Canada's team” since Anola's Corey Koskie suited up for the club for one season in 2005. “My wife's family has a cottage in Buffalo Point which is right on Lake of the Woods, like the furthest southeastern point of Manitoba,” Swanson, 29, told the Free Press on Wednesday in a telephone interview, a few hours before his team hosted the Philadelphia Phillies at Rogers Centre.

8/04/23 Casper Ruud throws first pitch for Toronto Blue Jays ahead of National Bank Open. Casper Ruud was rooting for the home team on Thursday when he stopped by Rogers Centre stadium to throw out the first pitch for a Toronto Blue Jays game. The former world No. 2 is up north to compete at the National Bank Open, where he is looking to better his semifinal finish from last summer, but traded his tennis racquet for a baseball jersey as he helped kick off the deciding game of the Blue Jays' series against the Baltimore Orioles. “Ruud is ready,” captioned the team on social media along with video of the three-time Grand Slam finalist meeting Blue Jays mascot Ace and pitcher Erik Swanson.

5/26/23 Toronto Blue Jays use the long ball to take series opener from Minnesota Twins 3-1. Summoned into the game with Twins runners on second and third base and only one out, Erik Swanson's first four pitches to Joey Gallo badly missed the strike zone. Consider it a game-saving semi-intentional walk for the Blue Jays. Gallo jogged to first base, and the Twins' rally abruptly died, as it almost always does this season, from an overabundance of baserunners. Michael A. Taylor took a called third strike — or at least, home plate umpire Bruce Dreckman said he did — and Donovan Solano grounded out, dooming the Twins to their sixth consecutive series-opening loss, 3-1 to Toronto at Target Field.
