The Arizona Diamondbacks will attempt to finish their first series sweep of the season Thursday when they conclude their three-game set with the host Cincinnati Reds Thursday afternoon. The Diamondbacks won their season-high third straight game Wednesday when they held off the Reds 4-3. The third straight win didn't come without some late-game drama as Kevin Ginkel attempted to close out his sixth save in eight chances. After three of the first four Reds reached in the inning, trimming Arizona's lead to one, Ginkel was pulled by Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo. Travis d'Arnaud singled off the left-field wall to drive home the winning run in the 10th inning and the Atlanta Braves, who scored twice in the ninth, rallied late to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-5 on Friday night. Arizona Diamondbacks setup man Kevin Ginkel has not been told whether he will step into the closer role with Paul Sewald starting the year on the injured list with an oblique strain. “When I go out there, I've got a job to do, so I never want to put pressure on myself,” Ginkel said. Manager Torey Lovullo said relief pitcher Kevin Ginkel is dealing with right elbow soreness that popped up about a week ago. “It's just a little bit of a red flag at this point in time,” Lovullo said. One year ago, if you told me that in a year I would be writing a piece about Kevin Ginkel, I would have assumed that he had been DFA'd yet again to make space for a new acquisition. Ignoring Ginkel seemed reasonable. Arizona Diamondbacks reliever Kevin Ginkel picked up his second save of the season Wednesday against the Atlanta Braves, but the outing didn't go off without a hitch. Ginkel had two outs and a runner on third in a 5-2 game after allowing a leadoff double to Ronald Acuna Jr., who advanced on a fly ball by Ozzie Albies. Of the five arms, four were relief pitchers. Arizona has not drafted and developed any of its current relievers except Kevin Ginkel and Drey Jameson (60-day injured list), while Justin Martinez was an international free agent signing.
