5/08/24 Rays bid for second straight sweep in finale vs. White Sox. The lopsided losses extended Chicago's run differential to a majors-worst minus-92, easily the worst mark among the 30 teams. Majestic swings by Randy Arozarena and Isaac Paredes produced three runs in Tuesday's 5-1 triumph, enough to hand the White Sox their second straight setback after they won consecutive games last weekend at the St. Louis Cardinals. Arozarena, a hero in a ninth-inning rally against the New York Mets on Sunday, homered for the third time in five games on Tuesday. "We've got to keep using them to the 162nd game," Arozarena said.

3/30/24 Arozarena homers, drives in 2 runs to pace Rays' 5-1 victory over Blue Jays.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Randy Arozarena homered and drove in two runs, celebrating his solo shot by signing autographs for fans after returning to the dugout, to lead the Tampa Bay Rays to a 5-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.

“It makes me happy to be able to sign autographs for the kids because you never know, it could be their dream and they can identify with me there,” the All-Star outfielder said through a translator. “Hopefully one day they can make it to the major leagues as well and do the same.”

Right-hander Zack Littell (1-0) allowed four singles over six scoreless innings for the Rays, who've won two straight after losing by six runs to their AL East rivals on opening day.

Arozarena, a first-time All-Star a year ago, had an RBI single off Yusei Kikuchi (0-1) in the third inning, then went deep against the Toronto starter in the fifth.

Littell walked two and struck out six while only allowing just one runner past second base in a 90-pitch outing.

The game was delayed briefly when benches cleared at the end of the seventh inning, after Blue Jays reliever Génesis Cabrera exchanged words with Tampa Bay's José Caballero and shoved the shortstop, who had been tagged out at third base to end the inning.

“I’m just playing baseball… I don’t want any problems with anyone,” Caballero said. “I didn’t want it to go farther than what it was. Unfortunately, he didn’t think the same way.”

Since getting solo homers from Vladimir Guerrero, Jr., George Springer and Cavan Biggio in an 8-2 season-opening win at Tropicana Field, Toronto has been held to just three runs over the next two games — one on them on...

2/03/24 BenFred: Is a new class of former Cardinals ready to add to what-if list? Watch these 2. As a brand new baseball season nears spring training, it's time to update the landing spots of the latest batch of former Cardinals who will try to join a growing list of old friends who find fame and fortune — or just more playing time and better results — elsewhere. Getting traded away or let go by the Cardinals used to be the baseball equivalent of being put out to the national pastime's pasture. It's changed in big, loud ways, such as with Randy Arozarena in Tampa, Sandy Alcantara in Miami, Zac Gallen in Arizona and Adolis Garcia in Texas. It's changed in quieter ways, too, such as with Patrick Wisdom, who ranks 16th in National League home runs since 2021, or Lane Thomas, who has a better on-base plus slugging percentage through 2½ seasons with the Nationals (.763) than fourth outfielder Dylan Carlson (.717) does in his Cardinals career.
