Zach McKinstry turned 30 years old on Tuesday, but the Detroit Tigers utility man didn't just celebrate with a postgame cupcake. McKinstry was named the first “Most Valuable Philanthropist” of the 2025 season by the Players Trust, the charitable arm of the MLB Players Association. The recognition comes with a $10,000 grant to support McKinstry's work with various charities, including BBQ Mission, a Phoenix-based nonprofit that serves meals and spiritual support to the homeless.
