5/07/24 ‘Lights might not come back on’: A’s star closer cracks joke about Coliseum. (KRON) — A popular trend in Major League Baseball involves teams turning stadium lights off to create a dramatic entrance while the home team’s closer takes the mound. The San Francisco Giants recently unveiled their own fancy entrance for closer Camilo Doval. Through just more than a month of the MLB season, the best closer […]

4/18/24 What we learned as Webb dominates in win vs. D-backs. For the first time since offseason renovations, the Giants looked poised to have a light show at Oracle Park. Camilo Doval has been waiting three weeks for a save opportunity at home, but as the closer was warming up in the bottom of the eighth, the lineup chose a hilarious time to finally break out. The Giants scored four runs in the frame, forcing Doval to sit down, but giving Ryan Walker plenty of breathing room in a 5-0 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. The light show will have to wait, but the Giants were happy to at least grab some momentum for once.

4/15/24 Camilo Doval hasn't pitched for SF Giants in over a week. What's going on?. It's starting to get a bit boring for Camilo Doval. That number was inflated by the two inconsequential runs he allowed in his first game of the season, a non-save situation that the Padres were threatening to turn into one.

3/25/24 SF Giants minor-league report: What is the 2024 outlook for these top prospects?. Standing at the intersection of the four main fields at the Giants' minor-league complex, a 10-minute drive from their Scottsdale spring home, Kyle Haines paused his sentence and surveyed the action in front of him. With MLB's hyped “Spring Breakout” game postponed the previous day, the Single-A game taking place against the A's on Field 2 turned into a veritable showcase of its own. Roaming center field was 17-year-old Rayner Arias, getting in some of his first action domestically since signing for $2.6 million out of the Dominican Republic in 2023, the second-most lucrative deal the franchise has awarded an international amateur. The Giants' farm system has produced an All-Star closer, Camilo Doval and the ace of their pitching staff, Logan Webb.

3/21/24 Giants CEO says team will rotate through announcers with no set timeline to fill Brooks-Moon's job. The crab sandwiches are prepped, the field has been watered and San Francisco Giants gear is fully stocked. In its 25th season, Oracle Park is now the first baseball field in the country to install spotlights, similar to an NBA experience. For example, maybe when Camilo Doval is coming in for his closer and then spotlight his entry onto the field.

3/11/24 How SF Giants' rotation questions impact their bullpen construction. Bob Melvin does not believe bullpen games are the solution to the uncertainty in the San Francisco Giants' starting rotation. “At this point in time, I don't want to start with a reliever,” Melvin said. … Everybody should be able to throw two innings. There are certain exceptions, such as closer Camilo Doval and the set-up Rogers twins, Taylor and Tyler, who likely won't be asked to record more than four outs.

11/05/23 Player Review: Camilo Doval. What can you say about the closer who was everything for the San Francisco Giants? Camilo Doval's 2023 kicked off with a strong showing the World Baseball Classic... ... and despite some concerns about his ability to adapt to the pitch clock which seemed to be supported by a rocky start to the regular season of Major League Baseball (1-2 with a blown save and 7 runs allowed — 4 earned — in 11 April innings), Doval really locked it down once the calendar flipped to May.

10/04/23 Giants' Thairo Estrada talks leaving home to reach his baseball dream. Within the San Francisco Giants, there are a few players who had impressive seasons, like Camilo Doval, Thairo Estrada, Wilmer Flores and Luis Matos. When Estrada is up to bat in a game, Bad Bunny's song "Después de la Playa," starts to play. Estrada said as soon as the first inning gets underway, the party starts.

8/23/23 Camilo Doval blows another save, but new shortstop Paul DeJong salvages win vs. Phillies. After Camilo Doval blew his second save in as many days, DeJong delivered a two-RBI knock in the top of the 10th, saving the day and salvaging an 8-6 win in the finale of San Francisco's series against the wild card-leading Phillies. It was DeJong's third hit of game to go with a two-run homer that, for much of the afternoon, looked to be decisive. Just moments earlier, Doval plodded back to the dugout, down the steps and into the clubhouse as Jakob Junis jogged across the outfield grass and the 33,035 on hand erupted into pandemonium, watching their team erase a deficit for the third time in as many games this series.

7/29/23 What we learned as Davis' walk-off homer secures Giants' win. Camilo Doval blew a 2-0 lead in the top of the ninth inning, only for J.D. Davis to pick him up with one swing of the bat.

7/24/23 7/24 Gamethread: Giants @ Tigers (makeup game). The past five games notwithstanding, I think you'd agree that April was “the bad old days” of this season, when the San Francisco Giants couldn't compete against anybody and it all felt pretty dire. The Detroit Tigers were able to take advantage with a couple of extra inning wins at Comerica Park and only a rainout saved the April squadron from the ignominy of a sweep against a team they were projected to be much better than. About three and a half months later, the Giants have returned to finish up that series, the final game in a four-city, eleven-game road trip that started off great, but has now fallen into this one final gasp for survival. The Tigers are 6-4 since the All-Star break and 10-8 in July, and lest we forget, they walked off Camilo Doval back in April.

7/11/23 Giants ride Logan Webb to shutout victory over Rockies heading into All-Star break. Camilo Doval and Alex Cobb are going to the All-Star Game, but the horse the Giants rode in on is Logan Webb. If the Giants are going to do any postseason damage in 2023, it will be Webb anchoring the rotation as the No. 1 starter. Webb looked the part of the dominant postseason pitcher he was in 2021 on Sunday, shutting out the Colorado Rockies, 1-0, at Oracle Park. A festive crowd of 36,050 on a partially overcast day was treated to Webb's first shutout and complete game after 95 previous starts.

7/04/23 Rodríguez delivers in 4-run 9th against All-Star closer Doval as Mariners beat Giants 6-5. Julio Rodríguez hit a two-run double in a four-run ninth inning against All-Star closer Camilo Doval, and the Seattle Mariners held on to beat the San Francisco Giants 6-5. J.P. Crawford broke a 2-all tie with a sacrifice fly against Doval. Rodríguez’s double made it 5-2, and Teoscar Hernández added an RBI single with two outs as the Mariners handed Doval his worst outing in the majors. The right-hander had never allowed more than three earned runs in a game and had given up a total of eight in 38 prior appearances this season. Rookie catcher Blake Sabol homered twice and drove in all five runs for the Giants. He launched a three-run shot with two outs in the ninth before Paul Sewald closed it out.
