Robert Suarez Showing Mike Shildt He Can Be Trusted in Late-Game Situations For Padres Author: Maren Angus-Coombs Apr 08, 2024 Robert Suarez might be the San Diego Padres new closer. "He is a guy that has the stuff to pitch at the back end of games," manager Mike Shildt said on March 5. "I love his heartbeat for it. ... He's not going to make it bigger than it is. That's important. The unflappable part's important, and he's got the weapons to go with it. All those things, really, are a nice elixir to be able to go to at the back end of a game and close it down." Suarez got a five-out save on Wednesday against St. Louis, during which he threw 33 pitches, and he closed out Saturday's victory over

1/02/24 Report: Padres close to signing Woo Suk Go. Jon Heyman is reporting the San Diego Padres are close to signing Korean reliever Woo Suk Go. Despite having Robert Suarez and Yuki Matsui, Heyman says he's likely to be the team's closer (not sure if I believe that). Go, 25, pitched for the LG Twins in South Korea for the past seven seasons, posting a sub 3 ERA in three of the seven years. If this signing does indeed happen, it shouldn't be a significant contract financially or else the Padres wouldn't be in on him.

How The Padres Look To Move Forward Following 2023 Season How The Padres Look To Move Forward Following 2023 Season Padres Rumors: High-Paid Reliever Pegged as Worst Friars Contract Heading Into 2024 San Diego needs him to step up next season... Author: Matt Levine Publish date: Oct 11, 2023 8:30 PM EDT Any time a team signs relief pitchers to large contracts, it can be a major risk. Year-to-year relievers can be fickle with their results, so when you have a player performing well, it's best to take advantage at the moment. The San Diego Padres found this out the hard way in 2023 with veteran relief pitcher Robert Suarez. He was a key member of the team last season when San Diego went to the

Padres News: Robert Suarez Open to Taking Over Closer Position if Josh Hader Leaves He's ready for the job. Author: Caleb Nguyen Publish date: Sep 24, 2023 12:11 AM EDT Though much of the conversation for the Padres' offseason has been focused on two marquee pitchers in the organization , should one of them decide to leave in free agency, an in-house replacement is ready to step into a bigger role. Likely the favorite for NL Reliever of the Year, Josh Hader's departure for a bigger payday elsewhere could see Friar reliever Robert Suarez take over the team's closer role for 2024 and beyond. “I think we're still a ways away from that,” he said. “For me, I'm just focused on finishing

Author: Matt Levine Publish date: Sep 1, 2023 3:30 PM EDT Recently, it was found that San Diego Padres reliever pitcher Robert Suarez was using an illegal substance during a game. Upon finding it, Suarez was immediately removed from the game by the umpires. Padres News: Robert Suarez Ejected for Rule Violation, Suspension Imminent This is the last thing that the Friars needed right now... Author: Matt Levine Publish date: Aug 23, 2023 6:31 PM EDT One part of baseball that the sport would love to forget is the use of performance-enhancing drugs or substances. One way baseball has tried to deal with everything is the crack down on the use of sticky stuff for pitchers. The rule was implemented a couple of years ago and every so often, we still see players getting in trouble for it. Most of the time, umpires will check the glove of pitchers to check to see if they violate any foreign substance. If a pitcher is found to have anything, it calls for an

8/06/23 Saturday night's win will be remembered regardless of how the Padres season turns out. The San Diego Padres suffered perhaps the worst loss of the season on Friday night, as the bullpen allowed eight runs in the final two innings to the Los Angeles Dodgers on a night that was supposed to end in Robert Suarez and Josh Hader getting the last six outs of the game. Well, by scoring seven runs of their own in the eighth inning about 24 hours later to finish what felt like a huge comeback win in the moment. Maybe when we look back on August 5 we will remember it as a huge moment in the Padres season. Or maybe we'll just look back at it as a memorable moment in a disappointing season.

8/05/23 Padres Burned by Terrible Call from Home Plate Umpire. Padres Burned by Terrible Call from Home Plate Umpire A blown strike three call leads to a world of hurt for San Diego. Author: Clint Pasillas Publish date: Aug 5, 2023 6:00 PM EDT If you're looking to cast some blame for Friday's loss to the Dodgers, don't leave out home plate umpire Dan Iassogna. The veteran balls and strikes caller didn't have a terrible game overall. But the moments where he was terrible proved to be massively costly for the Padres. As Padres radio host Sammy Levitt noted on Twitter, one missed strike three call from Robert Suarez to Chris Taylor in the 8th inning was the biggest blown call of them all. At the moment of that pitch, the game was tied 3-3
