5/12/24 Red Sox's Connor Wong Adds Signature Play To Strong Season. Wong's offensive production became a plus to start the year, though his defense held room for a step forward. Entering play on Sunday, Wong had thrown out just 1-of-15 potential base-stealers in 2024, just a 7% clip. Against a Washington Nationals team that likes to run on Sunday, Wong showed off his arm on multiple occasions. CJ Abrams reached base to start the game and decided to test the Red Sox catcher.

5/07/24 Shortstop CJ Abrams growing into star for Nationals: 'We're going to go as far as he goes'. It may someday be known as the Shortstop Class of 2019, a draft haul baseball enthusiasts evoke as fondly as football fans speak of the 1983 quarterback class, which produced three Hall of Famers. The No. 2 overall pick: Bobby Witt Jr., who already has a 30-homer, 49-steal season to his credit and totes a .926 OPS for the surprising Kansas City Royals. Anthony Volpe heard his name called at No. 30, and he now occupies one of the most cherished roles in sports: Batting leadoff, playing shortstop for the New York Yankees. At No. 42, the Baltimore Orioles selected Gunnar Henderson, who is threatening to add an American League MVP trophy to the Rookie of the Year crown he claimed last year.

Davey Martinez's club stole 75 bases total in 2022, 20th most amongst 30 MLB teams, but with a few more players who could run on the roster in 2023, and new rules in place which encouraged running more and stealing more bases, the Nationals' manager said an increase in attempts was something he and his staff were focused on. Martinez's club stole 127 bases in 2023, 12th most in the majors, with CJ Abrams leading the way. “Abrams,” the club noted in their Season in Review, “… ranked fifth in Major League Baseball (3rd in the NL) with 47 stolen bases, the most in a single-season in Nationals' history (2005-[present]).” “[Abrams] broke Trea Turner's 2017 record on the final day of the season with two stolen bases against the Atlanta Braves,” the Nationals noted, and when Jacob Young stole the 124th of their 127 total bases on the year, the '23 Nats had the, “... most [stolen bases] in a single-season in Nationals' history (2005-pres.).”
