5/05/24 Cardinals offense produced a 5-run inning but struggled late in clutch spots in 6-5 loss. Saturday gave the Cardinals plenty of reasons to walk away soaked and sour. Heavy rain and lightning halted play with two outs, the bases loaded and Cardinals second baseman Nolan Gorman at the plate facing reliever John Brebbia, a former Cardinals pitcher, with an 0-1 count. The game stopped at that point and the outcome hung in the balance as rain pummeled the field for the next three hours. When play resumed, the White Sox turned to left-handed reliever Tanner Banks and the Cardinals countered by pinch-hitting for Gorman with right-handed hitting backup catcher Ivan Herrera.

3/19/24 Who starts at second base for Cardinals? Depends, but he's likely to bat first or third.. Before the start of spring training a year ago, Nolan Gorman finished fielding a flurry of groundballs at second base — still a relatively new position to him — when Cardinals coach Joe McEwing had an idea to give him reps at a spot he'd never played in the majors. McEwing, the bench coach at the time, suggested Gorman scoot over to shortstop and take some turns there. With range to cover and less time to do it on the left side of second base, Gorman rushed in, charged the ball, tried to do everything that much more quickly. “So, he told me, 'Go play second that way,'” Gorman recalled.

2/16/24 Cardinals' Nolan Gorman gets confidence boost from Oliver Marmol. Expectations haven't changed for 2024 though as the Cardinals have their sights set on a division title, something that will be more attainable if St. Louis' young core takes the next step. Among that core is second baseman Nolan Gorman who is coming off an impressive sophomore season in the bigs. Another year of development has the Cardinals hoping their 2018 first-round pick can reach the next level this season. “The way he's prepared this offseason to just get his body right to be in the lineup more often and stay healthy, he's done some meaningful things to make that happen,” Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said.
