3/06/24 Report: Padres Had Interest in 3 Veteran Starters. Report: Padres Had Interest in 3 Veteran Starters The starting rotation remains a massive question mark heading into the season. Author: Kevin Skinner Publish date: Mar 6, 2024 3:59 PM EST The Padres open the season against the Los Angeles Dodgers in a couple of weeks, but their starting rotation remains a massive hole . As of right now, FanGraphs projects Jhony Brito and Randy Vásquez as the fourth and fifth starters. Both pitchers debuted last season and combined to make 18 major league starts, a relative dearth of experience compared to the top of the Padres' rotation. According to Dennis Lin of The Athletic, the Padres had talks with Hyun-Jin Ryu before the veteran left-hander signed

Hoornstra Publish date: Mar 4, 2024 6:18 PM EST The San Diego Padres' starting rotation depth will be mentioned as an area of concern until — well, until it isn't. A few more days like Monday, and the Padres might be able to turn a perceived weakness into a strength. Starting pitcher Jhony Brito struck out six Chicago Cubs batters in 3.1 scoreless innings, pitching around five hits in the Padres' 2-1 victory at the Peoria Sports Complex. 1/29/24 Yankees should see 'quite a bit' of Will Warren as top prospects join the mix. The injury bug never relented after it began biting Yankees starters during spring training last year. Two of them, Jhony Brito and Randy Vásquez, had not debuted prior to 2023. “It's probably not ideal to have Brito and Vásquez both here trying to take the turn every time,” pitching coach Matt Blake admitted last August, “but that's where we're at.” Brito and Vásquez are now in San Diego, traded to the Padres in the Juan Soto deal.

1/03/24 Padres roster review: Jhony Brito.

Sizing up the Padres' 40-man roster heading into the 2024 season: Jhony Brito made his MLB debut in the rotation with the Yankees in 2023 but finished the year as a multi-inning bullpen arm

9/04/23 Yankees having a blast riding wave of Jasson Dominguez, Austin Wells and the other kids. Jhony Brito, one of eight rookies on their expanded 28-man roster, danced his way to the showers. The Yankees had a ball celebrating Sunday night's 6-1 win at Minute Maid Park. It's probably too late for the Yankees to sneak back into wild-card contention, but they've won six of seven to get back to a game under .500 at 68-69 and they're still mathematically alive at 8 ½ games out of the last spot with 25 to play. “Obviously nothing's gone how we wanted it to this year, but we're playing for a lot in there,” manager Aaron Boone said after the sweep.

The former Boston Red Sox ace this week used his podcast , “The Curt Schilling Baseball Show,” to predict the Yankees will fire Aaron Boone, then made the case for why the manager deserves to keep his job. “I'll say, and you heard it here first, and I don't want to be first, but Aaron Boone is gonna get fired, and that's gonna suck because none

8/19/23 At some point, spiraling Yankees will have to sacrifice Aaron Boone to the fans, right?. The losses are mounting, with no end in sight, and the Yankees are spiraling out of control as they head toward their worst season in decades. After Friday night's 8-3 loss to the Boston Red Sox, the Yankees have lost six in a row while being outscored by 23 runs in those games. Four batters and 13 pitches into the game, the Red Sox had a 4-0 lead against overmatched starter Jhony Brito. With losses in 15 of their last 22 games, the Yankees are 60-62 and on life support.

8/03/23 Yankees' bats, Jhony Brito struggle in 5-1 loss to Rays in final game before trade deadline. The Yankees sputtered on both sides of the diamond Monday night in a 5-1 loss at home to the Rays, with the offense mustering only three hits and starting pitcher Jhony Brito surrendering four home runs. “It's a broken record: We've got to be better,” manager Aaron Boone said afterward. Brito was called up Monday from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to make a spot start in place of Domingo Germán, who was scratched after experiencing right armpit discomfort.

7/05/23 New York Yankees vs. Baltimore Orioles: Randy Vásquez vs. Dean Kremer. With two wins in hand already this week, the Yankees (48-38) trail the Orioles (49-35) by just two games in the AL East standings, and now, they'll have a chance to bring it down to just one as they try to make it three in a row against the O's to start this four-game set. Taking the hill for the Yankees, 24-year-old rookie Randy Vásquez (1-1, 1.74 ERA) makes his third spot start in as many months, and ideally, it'll be the last one before Carlos Rodón permanently occupies the floating rotation spot that Vásquez has shared with Jhony Brito so far this year. Working with decent velocity, some interesting pitch traits, and a full six-pitch starter's arsenal, it seems likely that Vásquez has a role in an MLB rotation somewhere in his future.

5/25/23 Yankees to promote pitcher Randy Vásquez for Friday debut. The Yankees faced a bit of a conundrum over the weekend when they optioned rookie pitcher Jhony Brito to the minors to make room for the return of Luis Severino. Since Domingo Germán was suspended, someone would have to take the start on Friday that otherwise would have been handled by Germán or Brito. Pitching prospect Randy Vásquez was in the Yankee Stadium clubhouse this afternoon, and shortly after he was noticed, he confirmed to reporters that he would be getting the ball on Friday night against the Padres. Regardless of whether he starts or simply serves as the “bulk guy” for an opener, it will be his MLB debut, and somewhat amusingly, it will be only his second time at a major league game ... after tonight.
