5/02/24 3 takeaways from a 3-4 Chicago Cubs road trip, including a sputtering offense and the rotation stepping up. NEW YORK — Ben Brown did not hide the frustration on his face. The Chicago Cubs rookie right-hander kept the New York Mets hitless through four innings Thursday until the outing unraveled. Brown was in position to work around a leadoff walk and single to start the fifth, retiring the next two hitters. However, back-to-back RBI singles and his fifth walk of the game ended Brown’s day. 5/01/24 Cubs, after dramatic win, chase series victory over Mets. It didn't take the Chicago defense long to redeem itself. Ben Brown (0-1, 4.30 ERA) is slated to start for the Cubs against fellow right-hander Adrian Houser (0-3, 8.37 ERA). With one out in the ninth, Chicago closer Hector Neris plunked Pete Alonso, after which J.D. Martinez doubled off the glove of Pete Crow-Armstrong in deep right-center field.

4/21/24 Ben Brown's role could be dictated out of necessity for Chicago Cubs. Cubs rookie pitcher Ben Brown has raised a lot of eyebrows so far in his young career. Brown, in his last start in Arizona, went six innings last Monday, giving up just one run on one hit before pitching two scoreless relief innings in game two of Saturday's DH. It is safe to say a lot of Cubs fans would love to see him in the rotation, especially since the Cubs rotation does not have the power arms that other teams do. Brown's most recent appearance came several hours after closer Adbert Alzolay blew his fourth save opportunity of the season.
