5/12/24 Rockies finish off sweep of Rangers with stellar defense, notch fourth straight win. Make way for Colorado's Purple Rally Killers. On a Sunday afternoon when elite defense was paramount, the Rockies delivered a 3-1 victory to complete a three-game sweep of the defending World Series champion Rangers at Coors Field. Colorado limited the Rangers to six runs over the series. “It was fantastic defense,” said Gold Glove center fielder Brenton Doyle, who dislodged a section of padding in the center-field wall with his grab-and-smash web gem in the fifth inning.

5/09/24 Rockies ride big fourth inning to victory over Giants. Brenton Doyle homered among his two hits, Ezequiel Tovar tripled and doubled in the fourth inning and finished with three hits, and the Colorado Rockies beat the San Francisco Giants 9-1 in Denver on Thursday. Charlie Blackmon tripled, doubled, singled and drove in two runs, Elias Diaz had two hits and Cal Quantrill tossed six strong innings to help Colorado end a four-game skid.

5/08/24 Colorado Center Fielder Brenton Doyle Emerging As Valuable Two-Way Piece. Colorado center fielder Brenton Doyle debuted as one of the best center fielders in major league baseball in 2023, when he became only the sixth rookie outfielder to win a Gold Glove. Doyle simplified his hitting approach while preparing for Year 2, and the resultant improvement on that side of the ball has given the Rockies reason to believe that he could be a long-term asset as they attempt to push through a rough start and a series of debilitating injuries. Doyle has bumped his batting average by 66 points and his OPS by 143 points, to a 101 OPS+, in 35 games this season. The Rockies recently looked at him at the top of the lineup to take advantage of his speed and increased rates of contact and exit velocity.

5/04/24 Brenton Doyle: Up-And-Coming Dynasty Players. Hello everyone. Glad to see you back for another week of Up-and-Coming Dynasty Players. This week I want to focus on Brenton Doyle of the Colorado Rockies. I just hope that talking about Doyle won't put a jinx on him. The last weekend of March I talked about Chase Silseth and as soon as I did that, he pretty much landed on the 60-day IL. After talking about Garrett Crochet, he has had a rough two weeks, posting a 10.50 ERA and 1.58 WHIP over his last 12 innings of work. However, players are going to have their ups and downs, especially younger players. If you are starting to waiver on players like Silseth and Crochet, or a Will Benson or Chas McCormick, don't. I still see the value in these players and others I have talked about and maintain they will be good dynasty players. In fact, now might be a good time to try to acquire a player like Crochet as the other owner may be willing to sell low. Enough about that. Let's get back to Doyle. He's a player I've been holding back in featuring him in order to see how he would do over the first month of the season. I took a chance on him this offseason by adding him in several leagues and I am more than happy that I did. Let's see why I think Doyle is an up-and-coming dynasty player.

2/18/24 Rockies' Brenton Doyle searching for offense to pair with Gold Glove defense. Brenton Doyle already has a Gold Glove in his trophy cabinet. Indeed, winning a Silver Slugger award would make the Rockies' young center fielder a bonafide All-Star. At the very least, marked improvement at the plate by Doyle would add punch to the club's heretofore punchless lineup. There's much work to be done — as Doyle's .203/.250/.343 slash line as a rookie last season illustrates.

12/04/23 Brenton Doyle is already the best defensive centerfielder in Colorado Rockies history. The value of Brenton Doyle's defense might be, literally, indescribable. It's important to understand the context that, according to every number we have, Coors Field is an absolute nightmare for outfielders. Defensive metrics are far from perfect, but they all agree that Doyle isn't just on another level from every other Colorado Rockies outfielder… he's on another planet. Consider that the previous high for a Rockies outfielder in DRS was six.

11/21/23 Tuesday Rockpile: An exercise in projecting the 2025 Colorado Rockies. Just Baseball is another site I write for, and I was surprised when this graphic showed up on their Instagram feed. This typo of Brenton Doyle's name aside, I was intrigued by the premise. 1B — Will Kris Bryant be the Rockies first baseman in 2025?

11/09/23 Thursday Rockpile: Should Nolan Jones have been a ROTY Finalist?. With the World Series over and the 2023 Major League Baseball season officially concluded, awards season is in full swing. The Rockies continued their Silver Slugger drought , for which they haven't had a winner since 2019. Meanwhile, Brenton Doyle took home the Gold Glove for National League center fielders, the only one of the Rockies' three finalists to win. However, the “big deal” awards are still around the corner. On Monday evening, MLB announced the finalists for the 2023 Baseball Writers' Association of America (BBWAA) awards. When you have a season like the Colorado Rockies did, it's no surprise that BBWAA voters weren't exactly lining up to hand out the hardware. It was unsurprising

11/07/23 Tuesday Rockpile: Brenton Doyle "super honored" to win his first MLB Gold Glove. On Sunday, when Brenton Doyle won the National League Center Field Rawlings Gold Glove, he made history, becoming the first NL rookie outfielder ever to win the prestigious award. He also became the second Rockie — Nolan Arenado was the first — to win a Gold Glove as a rookie. And he joined Larry Walker and Carlos González as the only Colorado Rockies outfielders ever to win this award. Not bad. People who have not been paying attention to the the rookie's outstanding season were skeptical, as the replies to this tweet illustrate. 11/05/23 Why Rockies' Brenton Doyle is the best defensive center fielder in team history. Rookie Brenton Doyle is the best defensive center fielder in Rockies history. Doyle should win a National League Gold Glove when the awards are announced Sunday night. “Cory (Sullivan) and I have already said he's the best center fielder in Rox history,” said Ryan Spilborghs. Spilborghs and Sullivan, the Rockies' TV analysts, both roamed the wide-open spaces of Coors Field.

10/18/23 Rockies' Gold Glove finalists: Brenton Doyle, Ezequiel Tovar, Ryan McMahon. The Rockies struck rookie gold in 2023. Confirmation arrived Wednesday when rookie center fielder Brenton Doyle and rookie shortstop Ezequiel Tovar were named finalists for the Rawlings National League Gold Glove Award. Also, veteran third baseman Ryan McMahon was named a finalist for the third consecutive season. During the last third of the season, Colorado manager Bud Black frequently lobbied for all three players to win a Gold Glove, but Black was particularly adamant that Doyle deserved the honor.

10/01/23 Rockies end 103-loss season with 3-2, 11-inning win over Twins. You can close the book on the 2023 Rockies, who finished with a franchise-worst 103 losses. At least there was a happy ending Sunday afternoon at sun-splashed Coors Field when the Rockies celebrated a 3-2, 11-inning win over the Twins before a crowd of 33,375. Rookie Brenton Doyle, who opened the 11th inning as the ghost runner at second base, stole third base and came around to score on a wild pitch by outfielder-turned-emergency reliever Jordan Luplow. Cover-to-cover, it was a lousy season for Colorado, albeit with a few nice chapters in the mix.

9/26/23 Tuesday Rockpile: Three Colorado Rockies who should be Gold Glove finalists (or winners). As speculation begins turning to award season, it's worth considering the defensive that may make these Rockies worthy of Gold Glove consideration. If you're saying to yourself right now, “Haven't we gone over this Brenton Doyle data before?” the answer is yes, But it's worth re-iterating just how exceptional Doyle has been this season.

9/22/23 Friday Rockpile: Doyle's adjustments already paying off at plate. In his rookie campaign, Brenton Doyle has lit up the highlight reels, flashing ridiculous range to make diving plays and gun down runners with 105.7 mph throws (the fastest in the Statcast era). The problem has been Doyle's offense. With a slashline of .192/.242/.324, the question is whether or not his fielding is worth the lack of production at the plate. Earlier this month, Purple Row's Kenneth Weber even wrote about “the big if” and whether or not Doyle could take the next step and a Major League hitter.

Brenton Doyle hit a three-run triple in a four-run fifth inning, Charlie Blackmon had three hits and three RBIs on his bobblehead night, and the Colorado Rockies beat the Toronto Blue Jays 8-7. Doyle’s two-out triple gave the Rockies a 7-5 lead and Blackmon followed with an RBI single as the Rockies broke a four-game losing streak and won for just the second time in their last 12 game. Kevin Kiermaier homered and Whit Merrifield and Santiago Espinal had two hits apiece for the Blue Jays, who remained 1 1/2 games behind Texas for the third AL wild card. Toronto took a 4-0 lead with six hits in the first inning, and Kiermaier’s seventh homer leading off the second made it 5-0. Colorado chipped away with four unearned runs off Blue Jays’ starter Yusei Kikuchi (3-5).
