4/28/25 Cardinals Cutting Ties With Phenom For Now Down To Minors. The St. Louis Cardinals recently made a somewhat surprising decision to keep young infielder Thomas Saggese on the big league roster despite both Masyn Winn and Nolan Gorman. The surprising part of that decision to keep him in St. Louis had nothing to do with his performance. The surprising part was that there wasn't going to be as much time to go around for him to have an everyday opportunity with Winn and Gorman now healthy. It sounds like the Cardinals are looking more in that direction now as they optioned him to the minors on Sunday in favor of infielder Jose Barrero, according to MLB.com's John Denton.

4/22/25 Cardinals news: Masyn Winn's return leads to eye-opening roster decision. The St Louis Cardinals were off to a strong start to the season before a weekend series against the New York Mets. The Cardinals are getting Masyn Winn back just in time, but are not sending down Thomas Saggese, who was playing shortstop in his absence. MLB.com's John Denton explains why.

4/21/25 Cardinals Urged To Make Extremely Difficult Roster Decision. The St. Louis Cardinals are just days away from likely having to make a difficuly decision. Masyn Winn is eligible to be activated off the Injured List on April 22nd after being placed on the Injured List due to back spasms. When he ultimately is activated, the Cardinals are going to have to send someone down to the minors and the player who seems like the most obvious option is infielder Thomas Saggese.

4/20/25 MLB Writer Notably 'Worried' About Young Cardinals Star. The St. Louis Cardinals are in a bit of a rebuilding year as they look to transition from an older roster to a younger core. Masyn Winn and Jordan Walker are two of the youngsters that the Cardinals would love to see take big steps forward, but it doesn't seem like that's the way they're trending. Josh Jacobs of Redbird Rants recently noted that he was worried about the aforementioned Walker. "Walker has seen an uptick in his average (.239) and on-base percentage (.299), but his slugging percentage is at an all-time low (.338), ultimately still grading out as a well below-average hitter this year (84 wRC+)," Jacobs wrote.

4/18/25 Cardinals Rising Star Could Be Days Away From St. Louis Return. The St. Louis Cardinals have been without the services of Masyn Winn since April 11th but it sounds like he's almost back. Winn was forced to leave the April 11th contest against the Philadelphia Phillies due to back spasms. Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported on Friday that Winn's gearing up for rehab assignment on Friday and could return as soon as next week if all goes well. "Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn will move a step closer Friday to returning to the lineup, along with a plan to keep him in it," Goold said.
