5/14/24 Cubs' Shota Imanaga makes even more franchise history in strong outing vs. Braves. The signing of Shota Imanaga has been a home run for the Chicago Cubs this season, and despite being defeated by the Atlanta Braves by the score of 2-0, Imanaga continued to impress with five shutout innings against one of the best lineups in the game. Imanaga's start to the season with the Cubs has made all sorts of history. At this point in the season, Shota Imanaga's ERA sits at 0.96, which is the fourth lowest through a pitcher's first four career starts (excluding openers) since at least 1913, which is when ERA became an official stat, according to Jordan Bastian of MLB.com. Only Fernando Valenzuela (0.50 in 1981), Dave Ferriss (0.75 in 1945) and Cisco Carlos (0.95 in 1967-68) had lower marks through their first eight starts.

5/14/24 Chicago Cubs' Shota Imanaga Continues to Cement Himself in Baseball History with Fantastic Start. The Chicago Cubs lost against the Atlanta Braves on Monday night, 2-0, at Truist Park in Atlanta. With the loss, the Cubbies are now 24-18 on the season while the Braves are 25-13 after the win. Though the Cubs lost, it was no fault of rookie lefty Shota Imanaga, who once again showed why he was one of the most coveted free agents in baseball this past winter. The Japanese hurler went 5.0 innings, surrendering no runs and striking out eight. He gave up just three hits. Though he took a no-decision, Imanaga now has a miniscule 0.96 ERA, which puts him in some elite company in baseball history. Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com: lowest ERA in 1st 8 career starts, since ER official in both leagues (1913)

5/11/24 San Francisco Giants Have Pair of Rookie Of Year Candidates. The San Francisco Giants have had good luck with their rookies so far this season, so much so that two of them are considered Top 10 candidates for National League Rookie of the Year after six weeks. The Athletic recently put together a Top 10 list for the NL, headlined by Chicago Cubs left-hander Shota Imanaga, who is on a tear to start the season. Harrison got a taste of the bigs last year as he had a 4.15 ERA in seven starts, but he retained enough service time to stay a rookie this season.

5/10/24 Chicago Cubs Star Leads Latest Rookie Of The Year Rankings. The Chicago Cubs had to wait until January to net their biggest pitching signing of the offseason. Shota Imanaga isn't listed as a starting pitcher for the Cubs in their series with the Pittsburgh Pirates this weekend, but it doesn't lessen The Athletic's belief that, after six weeks, Imanaga has a firm hold on the top spot in their National League Rookie of the Year rankings. Imanaga took the top spot, followed by Pirates pitcher James Jones and Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who was the most coveted free-agent pitcher on the market and signed a deal three times more valuable than the one Imanaga signed.

5/10/24 How rare lefty splitter has helped fuel Shota Imanaga’s historic start for Cubs. CHICAGO — Five years ago in Japan, Shota Imanaga searched for a new pitch. He wanted to incorporate something that would use the same arm path as his four-seam fastball. Imanaga didn’t like his tendency to pull his arm down when throwing change-ups, so he tinkered. The left-hander landed on a split-finger grip that felt good in bullpen sessions, and eventually he threw it in games. Once he saw ...
