Hawkins underwent season-ending right shoulder surgery on Friday. Dr. Lewis Yocum removed fraying from Hawkins' labrum and rotator cuff. He is expected to be ready for spring training.

The 37-year old Hawkins has opted for arthroscopic surgery to repair his rotator cuff and labrum. Depending on what is found during the surgery, Hawkins should be able to participate fully in spring training.

Hawkins will begin a minor-league rehab assignment next week. "I don't know exactly what the schedule is, but he's going to get back-to-back days and he's going to get a two-inning stint also," Brewers manager Ken Macha said. "Hopes are that he may be back around the Cincinnati series [on July 26-28]."

Hawkins threw a bullpen session today and continues to make progress from a lingering right shoulder problem. He threw 52 pitches and "did well," according to manager Ken Macha. He could throw a simulated game next week before departing for a Minor League rehabilitation assignment.

Hawkins fell to 0-3 on the season after giving up a game-winning grand slam in the 9th inning to the Dodgers yesterday. His ERA stands at 9.26.
