5/09/24 A middling Chicago Cubs offense + Paul Skenes could be a disaster on Saturday. Learning the Chicago Cubs will face off against the game's most hyped pitching prospect since Stephen Strasburg while being carved up by Dylan Case certainly checked the box of 'poor timing' on Wednesday afternoon. The matchup has the potential to be disastrous for a Chicago lineup that's been erratic, to say the least, and is working to get back to full strength. In Wednesday afternoon's 3-0 loss to the San Diego Padres, Craig Counsell's club mustered all of one hit - a Yan Gomes single - as Cease, a former Cubs prospect, dominated his former organization, cruising through seven scoreless frames and striking out 12.

4/07/24 Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg, the 2019 World Series MVP, announces his retirement at 35. Washington Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg has announced his retirement, ending the 2019 World Series MVP’s injury-filled career. Since leading Washington to its only World Series title five years ago, the 35-year-old pitched just 31 1/3 innings over eight starts. Strasburg was 113-62 with a 3.24 ERA over 13 seasons and made three All-Star appearances. He led the National League with 18 victories in 2019 and then delivered a dominant postseason, going 5-0 with a 1.98 ERA over six appearances. He signed a seven-year, $245 million contract in December 2019 but threw only 528 pitches in the majors since then.
