5/09/24 Adam to Mets TV booth?. Mets hurler Adam Ottavino was the Mets' most dependable relief pitcher in April, and that includes closer Edwin Diaz. At age 38, Ottavino is showing a veteran can learn new things. While he has no immediate plans to call it a career, Ottavino knows he is one of the oldest current players, and a post-baseball life is near. It is rare for a current player to take part in a sports opinion show like “Baseball Night in New York,” especially with the advent of social media where every slip of the tongue is magnified.

5/05/24 Rays beat Mets 3-1 to spoil strong MLB debut by New York's Scott; Cash picks up 755th victory. Pinch hitter Austin Shenton’s bases-loaded walk scored a tiebreaking run in the eighth inning and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the New York Mets 3-1 on Saturday night. Adam Ottavino (1-1) was on the verge of getting out of a bases-loaded jam with one out in the eighth after shortstop Francisco Lindor made a leaping throw to home for a force-out at the plate on Randy Arozarena’s high hopper. However, Shenton walked to complete a nine-pitch plate appearance before José Caballero drew a free pass from Sean Reid-Foley to make it 3-1. Jason Adam (2-0) earned the win and Phil Maton worked the ninth for his first save. Rays manager Kevin Cash won his 755th game, moving past Joe Maddon for the most wins in team history.

5/01/24 Adam Ottavino continues eye-popping start to season for Mets after 2022 struggles. Adam Ottavino had another regular night at the park on Wednesday night, pitching a scoreless eighth inning, striking out a pair — and allowing a stolen base. It was his ninth consecutive scoreless — and hitless — appearance and continued an eye-popping first month of the season for the right-hander, who entered the game with 15.2 strikeouts per nine innings, a miniscule 0.416 WHIP and a drastic reduction in walks compared with most of his career. And since giving up runs in his first two appearances of the season, he's gone 34 straight batters without allowing a hit — although his latest outing came in a 1-0 loss to the Cubs. 2/21/24 Mets' Adam Ottavino overhauling pickoff move to combat pitch-clock changes. PORT ST. LUCIE — Adam Ottavino spent the offseason studying doubles prevention. In this case, it meant working on a better pickoff move to first base that would help stop opponents from turning a single or walk into a double. Last season, the Mets reliever struggled holding base runners, following MLB's implementation of the pitch clock. New York Mets relief pitcher Adam Ottavino is working on his pickoff move. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST Ottavino could no longer just hold the ball or step off the rubber repeatedly to upset the runner's timing. The veteran right-hander discovered he was moving his hands before the rest of his body, costing himself tenths-of-a-second in his pickoff throws. Explore

2/14/24 Mets Notebook: Why Adam Ottavino returned, Ronny Mauricio officially on 60-day IL. Adam Ottavino never shut the door on a return to the Mets. With a new regime taking over and an option that would have deferred much of his 2024 salary, the veteran right-hander felt it best to test the free agent market. “It was never not on the radar,” Ottavino told the Daily News on Wednesday at Clover Park. Initially, the Mets didn't show much interest in Ottavino.

2/05/24 Grading the Mets' Adam Ottavino signing. After making a bevvy of small signings and building a big heap of NRIs to churn, the Mets finally made a more substantial bullpen reinforcement and brought back Adam Ottavino on a one-year, $4.5M deal. It's one of the odder deals of the offseason for sure; Ottavino originally opted out of his $6.75M player option earlier this offseason—it's worth noting that a good chunk of that money was going to be deferred—and has cited uncertainty on the direction of the team as one of the primary reasons for that decision. Despite those and a handful of other thinly-veiled criticisms throughout the offseason, the 38-year-old right hander will now rejoin the late-inning mix for the Mets.

1/29/24 Former Red Sox reliever Adam Ottavino knows a thing or two about offseason uncertainty. In 2021, Ottavino was traded by the Yankees to the Red Sox in late January, resulting in a rush to find a rental in Fort Myers, Fla. “We ended up sight-unseen renting a place that we didn't know anything about because it looked new-ish,” said Ottavino. The 38-year-old, selected out of Northeastern in the first round of the 2006 draft, is instead excited about the prospect of a 19th professional season. “It's incredible because there's so few of us left standing from my draft,” said Ottavino.

12/13/23 Yankees Potential Free Agent Target: David Robertson. The cold crisp air, the same songs playing in every store, that warm, familiar feeling no matter where you go. Since his second free agency departure, Robertson came close to coming home in 2023 by signing a deal with the Mets. Although, they shipped him off to Miami, Robertson most certainly did not take his talents to South Beach. Joining the Mets ahead of the 2023 season, Robertson was projected to form a formidable set-up tandem with Adam Ottavino and help eventually get the ball to All-Star Edwin Díaz.
