Winning three games in a row seems like a modest accomplishment, but it is something the Cardinals hope signifies a start in the right direction. The victory over the Mets on Saturday in New York gave the Cardinals that three-game streak, their longest of the season. The Cardinals gave Sonny Gray a 4-0 lead before he threw his first pitch, their best first inning of the season. At the plate: The biggest hit in the first inning was a two-run single by Paul Goldschmidt, which followed a double by Brendan Donovan and singles by Willson Contreras and Nolan Arenado.

Sonny Gray extended his terrific start with St. Louis, Paul Goldschmidt hit an early two-run double and the Cardinals beat the New York Mets 7-4 for their first three-game win streak this season. With the bases loaded in the ninth inning, Ryan Helsley retired Francisco Lindor on a popup for the final out. Nolan Arenado and rookie Masyn Winn each had an RBI single during a four-run first against Mets newcomer Adrian Houser. Pete Alonso hit his 200th home run for the Mets, becoming the fourth-fastest player in major league history to reach the milestone behind Ryan Howard, Aaron Judge and Ralph Kiner.

On Sunday afternoon, Sonny Gray took the mound for the St. Louis Cardinals against the Milwaukee Brewers and did his best to snap his team's three-game slide. Gray, the Cardinals' prized offseason acquisition, gave a solid effort, including six scoreless innings to start his outing, but the two runs he allowed in the seventh were the difference as St. Louis was shutout.
