4/09/24 Diamondbacks' Randal Grichuk on recent losses: 'We're right there'. Outfielder Randal Grichuk was impressed watching the Arizona Diamondbacks overcome the odds in the postseason last October, seeing the local buzz while living in the Valley. Despite Arizona's early problems leading to a five-game losing streak, this season is not yet two weeks old and Grichuk has maintained a level head. “The ups and the downs are going to happen,” Grichuk told Arizona Sports' Burns & Gambo on Tuesday.

4/05/24 D-backs activate Grichuk (ankle) from 10-day IL. The Arizona Diamondbacks activated outfielder Randal Grichuk from the 10-day injured list Friday. The veteran, who signed with Arizona in February, missed the start of the season while recovering from surgery on his right ankle. Grichuk, 32, split the 2023 season with the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Angels, batting .267 with 16 homers and 44 RBIs in 118 games. The 2009 first-round pick (24th overall) has a .249 average with 191 home runs and 556 RBIs in 1,141 games with the St. Louis Cardinals (2014-17), Toronto Blue Jays (2018-21), Rockies (2022-23) and Angels.

3/31/24 Diamondbacks' Randal Grichuk expected back soon after 10 days. The Arizona Diamondbacks placed outfielder Randal Grichuk on the 10-day injured list with the idea he'd be ready to go soon after the 10th day, and that continues to be the plan, according to manager Torey Lovullo. Grichuk, 32, signed with the D-backs fresh off right ankle surgery to address bone spurs, and he missed all of Cactus League while rehabbing. The veteran played five innings in center field on Friday and went 1-for-3 at the plate for the Triple-A Reno Aces. Lovullo has said Grichuk could have been able to join the team as a designated hitter on Opening Day, but getting his legs underneath him on defense was important for the club and player.

2/22/24 Arizona Diamondbacks Get Incrementally Stronger With Randal Grichuk. The Arizona Diamondbacks will never outspend the deep-pocketed Los Angeles Dodgers or most of their other NL West rivals, for that matter. What the Diamondbacks can do and have done is make strategic, incremental improvements to a roster that was good enough to beat the $209 million (disregarding those big deferments) Dodgers in the NLDS and the $237 million Philadelphia Phillies in the NLCS en route to the 2023 World Series. Outfielder Randal Grichuk, signed last week, is Arizona's latest addition, and he fills a vacancy. In an outfield full of left-handed hitters, Grichuk will fill a platoon-like role against left-handed pitchers.

2/18/24 Diamondbacks' Randal Grichuk working back from ankle surgery. Outfielder Randal Grichuk was present at Salt River Fields on Sunday after agreeing to terms with the Arizona Diamondbacks on a new contract. For Grichuk the opportunity to play near his home and for an aspiring postseason contender drew him to the D-backs, considering he has not played a playoff game since 2020. “It's been off-and-on for a while,” Grichuk said of the discomfort.

2/01/24 Colorado Rockies prospects: No. 20, Mason Albright. Albright was one half of Colorado's trade return from the Los Angeles Angels for Randal Grichuk and CJ Cron (the other was PuRP No. 24 Jake Madden). No individual pitch stands out in Albright's mix (maybe the curveball); rather it's the overall polish and feel for pitching he displays that sets him apart. After pitching most of the 2022 season in Low-A and getting absolutely shelled (8.67 ERA, 1.96 WHIP), Albright made some slight delivery adjustments and has saw much better results in 2023. In 79 2/3 innings in 15 games with the Angels' Low-A affiliate at 1.9 years younger than league average, Albright posted a 3.62 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and a 9.7 K/9 rate against a 2.3 BB/9 rate.

The purpose of this list is to provide a snapshot of the player in context. When the Colorado Rockies acquired Randal Grichuk prior to the 2022 season, it was with the hope that he could provide an offensive boost and a reliable defensive glove. The world had other plans as Grichuk underwent surgery around Spring Training time to address a bilateral sports hernia.

9/19/23 Tuesday Rockpile: 5 reasons to be optimistic about the Colorado Rockies. This team has been decimated by pitching injuries; the bullpen has the highest ERA (5.28) in MLB and has blown the most saves (30); they are 28th in home runs; and they only have one 2.0 fWAR player. By the time the July trade deadline arrived, Schmidt had traded Moustakas, CJ Cron, and Randal Grichuk to the Angels and sent Johnson and Hand to Atlanta.
