Red Sox rookie Marcelo Mayer will receive an anti-inflammation injection Saturday for his sprained right wrist in an attempt “to get him back,” manager Alex Cora said. The Red Sox placed the 22-year-old on the injured list July 25 after he left Boston's previous game with wrist discomfort. “He really wants to get back and this is the route,” Cora said before Saturday's game against the Astros at Fenway Park. Cora said this is the “quickest” route to a return if it works.

On Wednesday, the club added some depth by trading for RHP Paul Gervase and LHP Adam Serwinowski in a three-way deal with the Tampa Bay Rays and Cincinnati Reds. Today, the Dodgers are acquiring relief pitcher Brock Stewart from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for outfielder James Outman, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
