Unfortunately, the dog days of summer have not been too kind to the Dodgers, as they now trail the Padres, have suffered even more injuries in the middle of their order, and didn't accomplish much at the trade deadline, with Alex Call struggling to get much going on offense, and pitcher Brock Stewart already on IL. Are the Dodgers doomed? Because the Dodgers have the best farm system in the business and have a few players who are either in AAA or spent much of the season in OKC who could be factors this fall when the roster expands out, including their third-ranked prospect who has already gotten a few weeks of work at Dodger Stadium.

Hunter Goodman homered while Kyle Karros added two hits and scored once as the Colorado Rockies beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3 in Denver on Friday night. Tanner Gordon (3-5) allowed three runs on five hits in five-plus innings and Victor Vodnik picked up his fifth save for Colorado, which snapped a four-game skid against Arizona.

David Bednar pitched a scoreless ninth for his 19th save of the season and second for the Yankees.

There have been a lot of long nights during this Colorado Rockies season, the kind when even the most optimistic folks would have trouble finding positives. Starting pitcher Tanner Gordon shook off a recent funk with a solid outing, and several Rockies hitters played key roles in a 4-3 victory on Friday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Coors Field. Gordon's previous three starts were a disaster, with 24 runs (23 earned) allowed in 10 1/3 innings. Gordon did put the first two runners on to start the sixth inning, and that was the end of his outing.

Jhoan Dura´n, one of the prized acquisitions at Major League Baseball's trade deadline and the much-needed closer for the Philadelphia Phillies, was struck by a batted ball on his right ankle and taken off the field on a bullpen cart in the ninth inning of their Aug. 15 game. Dura´n, entering with a 6-2 lead against the Washington Nationals, took a one-hopper off the bat of the Nationals' Paul DeJong – exit velocity, 94.1 mph – and tried to retrieve the ball as it bounced toward the first base line.

8/15 7:55 PM Matt Chapman (3B-SF) Giants' Matt Chapman lands on IL with hand injury. The San Francisco Giants moved third baseman Matt Chapman to the 10-day injured list after he struggled to regain full strength from a right-hand injury. Chapman initially hurt his hand on June 8 while diving back to first base against the Houston Astros, an injury that sidelined him for 23 games earlier this season. Since his reinstatement, Chapman appeared in 31 games but batted just .200 with a .655 OPS, hitting four home runs. This slump coincides with broader team struggles as the Giants have scored only 1.8 runs per game over a 14-game stretch since July 12 and are hitting a mere .146 with runners in scoring position during that span.
