Story's homer and Giolito's strong outing lift Red Sox over Twins 8-5. - Advertisement - By PATRICK DONNELLY Associated Press MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Trevor Story homered, doubled and drove in three runs, Lucas Giolito pitched six strong innings, and the Boston Red Sox beat the Minnesota Twins 8-5 on Tuesday night. Giolito (7-2) gave up one run on five hits and two walks while striking out five. Jarren Duran also homered, doubled and stole a base for the Red Sox. Brooks Lee homered twice and drove in all five Minnesota runs. Lee entered the game in the third inning to replace Carlos Correa, who left with a migraine. Lee's two-run shot off former teammate Jorge Alcala cut Boston's lead to 8-5 in the bottom of the ninth. After Royce Lewis hit a two-out single, Aroldis

Sean McAdam: Don't let the numbers fool you. Garrett Whitlock has been superb out of the Red Sox bullpen, and so has closer Aroldis Chapman. But the Red Sox need additional help if they're going to reach the playoffs. After night's 8-5 victory over the Minnesota Twins Tuesday night at Target Field, Red Sox relievers have compiled a 3.37 ERA. That ranks them second in the American League, behind only the Texas Rangers, and fourth overall

Red Sox turn turbulent flight into latest in-game celebration and score much-needed win over Twins. At that moment, Rob Refsnyder, from one locker over, chimed in. Story said he noticed the plane wings when Ceddanne Rafaela did it after his third-inning triple, the start of a four-run rally against righthander Pierson Ohl. Rafaela said he was mirroring somebody who did the same the day prior. Duran said he didn't know anything until catching on Tuesday, then obliged as he rounded the bases following his homer — off the face of the second deck in center field — in the fifth.

Red Sox 'embracing all the adversity' by turning harrowing flight into creative celebration. It took about 48 hours, but the Red Sox are finally able to laugh about — and even celebrate — their harrowing flight to Minneapolis on Sunday night. Two days after the team charter encountered sustained, severe turbulence both before and after an unplanned pit stop in Detroit, players turned the experience into a new on-base celebration at Target Field. Throughout Tuesday's 8-5 win, multiple players, from Ceddanne Rafaela to Wilyer Abreu, celebrated hits by pantomiming a plane with its wings going up and down. Boston's charter, which left Logan Airport shortly after Sunday's win over the Dodgers, encountered severe weather in the Midwest that left several members of the traveling party reeling due to motion sickness for more than a day.
