Pinch-hitter Dominic Smith hit a tiebreaking RBI single against his former team in the 10th inning leading the San Francisco Giants to a 4-3 win over the New York Mets on Friday night. The victory snapped a six-game losing streak for the Giants, who dealt relievers Tyler Rogers and Camilo Doval, as well as outfielder Mike Yastrzemski, prior to Thursday's trade deadline. The Mets overcame a 3-0 deficit to force extra innings before losing their fourth straight game and falling out of first place in the National League East.

Pirates' Paul Skenes faces Rockies, looks to continue torrid stretch. The Pittsburgh Pirates aren't in the postseason hunt, but they do have a reason for optimism every fifth day when Paul Skenes takes the mound. Skenes (6-8) will take his majors-best 1.83 ERA into hitter-friendly Coors Field in Denver on Saturday afternoon when Pittsburgh continues its series against the Colorado Rockies. Skenes brings a 13-inning scoreless streak into the matchup against Colorado left-hander Austin Gomber (0-5, 6.28) on Saturday. Skenes will face the Rockies for the first time in his brief career and will try to restore some order for the Pirates, who squandered a 9-0 first-inning lead and lost 17-16 to Colorado on Friday night.

Dodgers' Blake Snell set to return to face Rays. The Los Angeles Dodgers were relatively quiet at Thursday's MLB trade deadline, safe in the knowledge that several injured players would be returning soon. One of those players critical to the team's postseason hopes will rejoin the Dodgers when they continue their three-game series against the host Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday. Rockies' stunning 17-16 comeback win over Pirates highlights huge night for offense across MLB. Colorado Rockies outfielder Brenton Doyle had a hard time describing what had just taken place after he delivered the crowning blow in perhaps the wildest game of the major league season. Doyle hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to cap Colorado’s stunning comeback from a nine-run deficit in a 17-16 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night. Colorado won despite allowing nine runs in the first inning. Elias Sports Bureau and MLB.com said this was the first time since 2006 that a team won a game after allowing nine runs in the first inning.

The Colorado Rockies have had a season to forget so far, but they continue to add more and more brutal performances to the ledger as the season starts to enter its final phases. Playing against the Pittsburgh Pirates — not exactly known for stacking up the runs — in front of their home fans at Coors Field, the Rockies had a disastrous first inning. Bryan Reynolds opened the scoring for the Pirates with an RBI single in the top of the first inning before Oniel Cruz blew the game open with a monstrous 451-foot grand slam out into center field.

The Athletic's Jim Bowden handed the Red Sox a C-, the lowest grade in the American League East. After the news was announced that the Mets had made two significant additions to their bullpen there was happiness, pride and a propensity to set up a long overdue celebration to cap off the forgotten 100 days of the 2025 season while finally seeing a significant step towards overdue change. Brewers Called 'Snoozers' By The Athletic Following Minor Deadline Trades. Few expected the Milwaukee Brewers to have the best record in baseball at the trade deadline, but once they got there, it was intriguing to find out how they would conduct themselves. Obviously, the Brewers weren't going to sell. Milwaukee brought in backup catcher Danny Jansen, reliever Shelby Miller, and the rest of the money on injured left-hander Jordan Montgomery's contract. It's more likely than not that Montgomery won't throw a pitch in a Brewers uniform.

Brewers Make Trades Before Deadline. MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — The Milwaukee Brewers made a pair of deals before the trade deadline. The Brewers began the day by sending pitcher Nestor Cortes, infielder Jorge Quintana and cash to the San Diego Padres for outfielder Brandon Lockridge.
