Pirates trio looks to continue uptick against former team in San Francisco. Pittsburgh's Bryan Reynolds will attempt to complete a homecoming hat trick Wednesday afternoon when the visiting Pirates go for a sweep of the San Francisco Giants. The Pirates, who occupy last place in the National League Central, clinched a third consecutive series win with 6-5 and 3-1 wins over the Giants on the first two nights of the three-game set. Pittsburgh, which has won four straight games and seven of its past eight, will look to hang a sixth straight loss on the Giants.

Red Sox 'have seen flashes' from starter acquired in Rafael Devers trade. Red Sox manager Alex Cora recently admitted that he's concerned with the team's starting pitching depth. “Obviously we're one pitch away from somebody (else) getting hurt,” Cora said during the last homestand. Kutter Crawford (wrist surgery) and Hunter Dobbins (ACL tear) are out for the rest of the season. Tanner Houck has been on the IL since May 14 with a right flexor pronator strain.

Red Sox reportedly made trade call about Pirates starter Mitch Keller. The Red Sox have reportedly kicked the tires on trading for Pittsburgh Pirates starter Mitch Keller, as Boston looks to strengthen its starting rotation ahead of MLB's trade deadline on Thursday. The Red Sox reportedly reached out to Pittsburgh about the 29-year-old right hander, according to Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Verlander gets no-decision as Pirates top reeling Giants 3-1 for 4th straight win. Liover Peguero homered for the first time in nearly two years, Joey Bart singled in the go-ahead run against his former team and the Pittsburgh Pirates won their fourth straight game by beating the skidding San Francisco Giants 3-1 on Tuesday night. San Francisco has lost five in a row and 11 of 13 overall. Peguero's solo shot in the fifth inning was the first in the majors for the Pirates shortstop since Sept. 9, 2023, and it marked a rare mistake on this night by 42-year-old Justin Verlander.

Injured Pirates Starting Pitcher Gets Closer to Return. A Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher made another important step, as they fight back from a serious injury. The Pirates announced that they transferred the rehab assignment of right-handed pitcher Johan Oviedo from Double-A Altoona to Triple-A Indianapolis on July 29. Oviedo made his first start with Indianapolis that same day, facing off against the Iowa Cubs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, on the road.

Paul Skenes Extends Incredible Streak During Pirates-Diamondbacks. To say Paul Skenes has had an incredible start to his MLB career would be a wild understatement. After an impressive college career at LSU, Skenes, 23, was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 MLB draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. After starting just five games at the Minor League level, Skenes was called up by the Pirates, and he has yet to disappoint.

The one where the Giants get only two hits. The SF Giants wasted a solid outing from Justin Verlander in a 3-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. The team scored one run, collected two hits, and Heliot Ramos outdid himself in blundering.
