Niyo: Trade deadline still should be a big relief for Tigers. Detroit — You learn a lot when you go through it a little. And if you ask AJ Hinch what he knows about the immediate uncertainty ahead — the final 24 hours leading up to the MLB trade deadline at 6 p.m. Thursday — he'll tell you the easy part first: He doesn't know what's going to happen. But the hard part, even as the Tigers hit this deadline as buyers for the first time during his five-year tenure as manager in Detroit, is knowing that “whatever happens, happens” means something different to everyone. And that whatever happens as team president Scott Harris works the phones trying to add to a young team that's destined for the playoffs, there will be a ripple effect. More: Zach McKinstry keeps

Red Sox Interested in 2 Diamondbacks Pitchers. The Arizona Diamondbacks continue to further solidify their own fate as sellers. On Wednesday, it was reported by WEEI 93.7's Rob Bradford that the Boston Red Sox have emerged as an interested party for two of the D-backs' prominent assets: right-hand starters Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly. The Diamondbacks have already begun their sale. Eugenio Suárez remains the hottest commodity on the market, for the time being, but Gallen and Kelly, both with a lengthy history of major league success, could be valuable pieces to teams looking to push for a postseason berth.

Twins blown out in final game before trade deadline. There's no telling what the Twins' roster might look like the next time the team takes the field. In between the end of Wednesday's game — a 13-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox that demonstrated why the Twins are in this position in the first place — and the Twins' next game on Friday night in Cleveland, Thursday's trade deadline will come and go. The Twins have already executed one deal, sending Chris Paddack to the Detroit Tigers, and are expected to make more before 5 p.m. CDT on Thursday. Speculation has been running rampant about a team that is now 51-57 trading off some of its veteran players, and it reached a fever pitch in the ninth inning of the blowout loss when Willi Castro, who had taken his position at second base, came off the field and was replaced before the inning started.
