Sam Long secured the win by escaping a jam in the 10th inning. Salvador Perez then hit a single to score MJ Melendez for the victory. Injuries to the starting rotation forced Royals manager Matt Quatraro to rely on the bullpen, which delivered an outstanding performance. They combined to allow five hits and one walk while striking out 10.

Right-hander Spencer Strider is slated to get the start for the Atlanta Braves against the Cincinnati Reds in the MLB Speedway Classic at Bristol Motor Speedway. Strider, 26, has pitched in front of substantial crowds in raucous atmospheres, but none will compare to Saturday as Major League Baseball is preparing to host the highest attendance for a single regular-season game in its history. More than 85,000 tickets have been sold, according to MLB. The previous paid attendance record of 84,587 was set on Sept. 12, 1954, when Cleveland Stadium hosted the New York Yankees.
