Reese Kaplan -- Grading the Trades Made by David Stearns. It's time for us to sit back and reevaluate how David Stearns has handled this roster refurbishment as the Mets attempt to reinforce their team by adding strengths while simultaneously not necessarily addressing all of the problem at hand. For the Mets to obtain Gregory Soto, Tylor Rogers, Ryan Helsey and Cedric Mullins it took capital. This time it's not about the kind from Steve Cohen's wallet but instead using an improved farm system's prospect pool to invest in the August and September months of the long baseball season to help propel the Mets into a front running position for October. It took one major league veteran and ten prospects to make things happen.

Pete Alonso snaps 0-fer slump with home run in Mets' loss. Access the Mets beat like never before Join Post Sports+ for exciting subscriber-only features, including real-time texting with Mike Puma about the inside buzz on the Mets. Try it free Pete Alonso has been a part of the offensive malaise the Mets have been stuck in, with the first baseman having entered Friday's series opener against the Giants stuck in an 0-for-17 skid. But Alonso sparked the Mets lineup in the seventh inning of a 4-3, 10-inning loss at Citi Field. After striking out in each of his first two at-bats of the night against left-hander Robbie Ray, Alonso led off the bottom of the seventh. With the Mets trailing by three runs and having not scored since Tuesday, Alonso proceeded

David Peterson continues to be exception to the rule on Mets staff. Access the Mets beat like never before Join Post Sports+ for exciting subscriber-only features, including real-time texting with Mike Puma about the inside buzz on the Mets. Try it free The Mets bullpen was worn out for weeks by an inability by most of the starting staff to work deep into games, necessitating multiple moves before the trade deadline. All-Star lefty David Peterson has been the lone exception to that troubling trend lately, posting the Mets' last seven outings of at least six innings pitched over his past nine appearances. The latest came in the Mets' first game after acquiring three key relief arms after Thursday's deadline, a six-inning quality start in a 4-3 loss in 10 innings
