7/24/25 Rangers Recent Surge Could Have Them Targeting These Two Positions Ahead of Deadline. It wasn't too long ago that the Texas Rangers were viewed as a team that would be likely sellers ahead of the MLB trade deadline. On June 6, they dropped to a season-high six games under the .500 mark, losing to the Washington Nationals 2-0. Hovering right around the .500 mark, the Rangers were a team trending toward being sellers in part to avoid the same missteps as last year. Despite not being in a playoff spot, Texas didn't sell any of their veterans on expiring contracts and acquired veteran reliever Andrew Chafin ahead of the deadline.

5/12/25 Recently Signed Nationals Reliever Showing Positive Changes to His Pitch Repertoire. The Washington Nationals have been a somewhat hit or miss team in 2025, and many of the "miss" events have been due to the lack of bullpen success. Closing out games has been an immense difficulty for the young team, and despite quite a few veteran arms to choose from, they have not found a level of consistency that has allowed them to win tight contests. In recent weeks, they have decided to shuffle things up a bit, signing Andrew Chafin, designating Colin Poche for assignment and releasing Lucas Sims. The signing of Chafin was an intriguing one.

5/01/25 Nationals, in need of relief help, bring on Chafin. The Washington Nationals tried to improve what's been a terrible bullpen by agreeing to terms on a $1 million contract for 2025 with Andrew Chafin on Thursday. The team also designated Colin Poche for assignment. MLB Power Rankings: Which NL power is atop our first May list? Both relievers are left-handers.

3/13/25 Tigers deal for lefty reliever Bailey Horn in trade with Cardinals. About 30 minutes after veteran non-roster lefty reliever Andrew Chafin struggled for the second straight outing Thursday, the Tigers announced they'd made a trade for another lefty reliever. Detroit Tigers | Tigers sign pitcher Jose Urquidy, who is still rehabbing from Tommy John surgery They acquired 27-year-old Bailey Horn from the Cardinals for cash. If the name sounds familiar, the Tigers had claimed Horn off waivers from Boston during the offseason but they designated him for assignment to clear a roster spot for Gleyber Torres.

3/09/25 Tigers option Matt Manning to Triple-A Toledo. Detroit Tigers | Tigers bringing back pitcher Andrew Chafin for third stint with team Tigers' equipment manager Dan Ross wheeled a cart over to Matt Manning's locker and the two of them proceeded to empty the contents of his locker into the cart. Then the two of them exited the big-league clubhouse, taking Manning's gear down the hall to the minor-league clubhouse. Manning, the former first-round pick, was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday morning along with right-hander Tyler Mattison, who is still rehabbing after Tommy John surgery. “It got to the point where we'd already made the decision that he's not going to make the team from the onset,” manager AJ Hinch said.

2/25/25 Tigers spell it out for Andrew Chafin: There's opportunity here, but no guaranteed spot. AJ Hinch was asked before the game about getting Andrew Chafin in the same game as Chase Lee. Just like Hinch facilitated a live bullpen matchup between Jack Flaherty and prospect Thayron Liranzo — who were traded for each other last July — it would be the same for Chafin and Lee, who were traded for each other on the same day. “I want to get them in the same RV park,” Hinch said, laughing. The Tigers on Monday signed Chafin to a minor-league deal and a camp invite, marking his third tour of duty with the club.

1/12/25 Yankees 'Checked In' on This Veteran Left-Handed Reliever, per Insider. While the New York Yankees have made a ton of great additions this offseason, they're still without a single left-handed reliever on their 40-man roster. There's little doubt that the Yankees will address this by the time next season begins, and they have already been linked to several lefties such as elite Rangers hurler Andrew Chafin and former Yankees pitcher Tim Hill.

12/28/24 ANDREW CHAFIN & TIM HILL "HIGH" ON YANKEES BULLPEN LIST. The New York Yankees might be gearing up to shake up their bullpen with a splash of left-handed finesse, reportedly eyeing reliever Andrew Chafin as a recent top target. The 34-year-old became a free agent this offseason after the Texas Rangers passed on his $6.5 million option for 2025, and he could be the perfect addition to balance out the Yankees' righty-heavy relief squad.

The Tigers traded Chafin to the Rangers at the deadline in July, receiving minor-league pitchers Joseph Montalvo and Chase Lee in return.
