7/31/25 MLB trade deadline winners and losers 2025: Mets and Mariners go all in, Tigers and Red Sox miss big opportunity. Every contender tries to find the missing piece — or pieces — at the trade deadline. Three of the past 10 World Series MVPs — Jorge Soler, Steve Pearce, and Ben Zobrist — were midseason acquisitions. In the past 15 years, deals for Justin Verlander, Hunter Pence, Jake Peavy, Aroldis Chapman, and Jordan Montgomery were among those that helped propel teams to a championship. Then, there are the moves that didn't result in a championship but were still well worth risk, from the Mets' trade for Yoenis Cespedes in 2015 to the Brewers' deal for CC Sabathia in 2008.

7/23/25 Angels’ Jorge Soler on a hot streak despite ailing back. The slugger, with a .977 OPS and 4 homers in 14 games since coming off the injured list, is learning how to work around the issue by minimizing pregame work.

7/19/25 Angels Notes: Major Trade Deadline Prediction, Mike Trout Announcement, Blockbuster Trade Idea. Jorge Soler, Taylor Ward and Jo Adell all homered in the Los Angeles Angels' 6-5 win over the NL East-leading Philadelphia Phillies on Friday. Their record improved to 48-49 on the season. In other news, The Athletic's Sam Blum expects the Angels to be aggressive buyers at the trade deadline at the end of July, believing they are desperate to end their postseason drought. The Angels are within striking distance of the final Wild Card spot, and a few more MLB-level players could push them over the edge. While Blum believes the Angels will be buyers, plenty of Angels have found their names on the rumor mill as the deadline approaches. One proposal completely overhauls the Angels' farm system, bringing

Former Atlanta Braves outfielder Jorge Soler had a strong night for the Angels in his homecoming to Truist Park Tuesday night. The Angels thought he was healthy and ready to go, and he delivered. 6/20/25 Angels All-Star Outfielder Day to Day With Back Injury. Los Angeles Angels All-Star outfielder Jorge Soler has been out of the lineup since Tuesday with a lingering back issue, and will be evaluated when the team returns home for their series against the Houston Astros on Friday. “We're going to be day-to-day on (his back),” manager Ron Washington said. Washington said Soler was available to pinch-hit in Thursday's loss to the Yankees, but that he could not play in the field. With designated hitter Mike Trout also unable to play the field, Soler will need to recover enough to man right field before his return.

6/14/25 MLB Insider Provides Massive Update on Angels' Trade Deadline Plans. The Los Angeles Angels find themselves at a pivotal crossroads 48 days out from the trade deadline. "The Angels, who are currently a game below .500, don't seem inclined to be sellers right now, but that should change by the end of July; if that happens, they'll have two power bats they could offer in DH Jorge Soler and LF Taylor Ward, along with starting pitcher Tyler Anderson and closer Kenley Jansen." Ward is having one of his best seasons yet during his eigh- year career with the Angels.

6/09/25 Angels Urged to Trade $42 Million All-Star Ahead of Deadline. Currently owed $16 million annually through 2026, Jorge Soler's deal looms large on a roster that is still trying to balance competitiveness with long-term sustainability. For the Los Angeles Angels, the cost-benefit analysis may be tilting in favor of moving on. Jim Bowden of The Athletic urged the Halos to look to trade Soler ahead of this year's deadline.

6/09/25 SP Involved in Unusual Braves Offseason Move Pouring Salt in Open Wound. There are few members of the Atlanta Braves organization experiencing a strong 2025 season. While the Braves are entering the second week of June on a seven-game losing streak, Canning is pitching very well for the New York Mets. Let me jog your memory of Canning's brief time in Atlanta. On Oct. 31, the Braves sent outfielder Jorge Soler to the Los Angeles Angels for Canning.

6/08/25 Angels' Struggling $42 Million All-Star Confident He'll Find His Swing Soon. Los Angeles Angels All-Star designated hitter Jorge Soler has struggled at the plate since coming to the American League West, but is confident he can turn things around. The Angels received Soler from the Atlanta Braves in the offseason for Griffin Canning. The 33-year-old has two years and $26 million left on his contract before hitting unrestricted free agency. During his struggles at the plate, an Angels hitting coach helped Soler make an adjustment to his swing, but he's begun tweaking it yet again.

Unfortunately, Jorge Soler had to leave the contest early due to groin tightness. The 2021 World Series MVP was replaced by Chris Taylor after the first inning who would go on to hit his first dinger in an Angels uniform Saturday night. In more injury news, Robert Stephenson underwent an MRI on his bicep.

5/27/25 Angels $42 Million All-Star Addition Named Among Biggest Busts. The Los Angeles Angels acquired a big bat over the offseason, but he has failed to make his mark on the season so far, making his contract one of the more disappointing ones from the winter. Jorge Soler, right fielder and designated hitter, was brought over via trade from the Atlanta Braves. Kerry Miller, baseball writer at Bleacher Report, cited the addition of Soler as one of the biggest busts in the league, given his production over the past two months. "The former was already one year into a three-year, $42M contract when the Angels traded for him," Miller wrote in his article.

5/24/25 Angels GM Praises Ron Washington, Coaches Amid Dominant Stretch of Play. Los Angeles Angels general manager Perry Minasian gave credit to his coaching staff when discussing the Halos' MLB-high eight-game winning streak. "We started off well, hit a little lull,” Minasian said. Veteran right fielder Jorge Soler is among the players who have gone on to commend the staff and what they have done to get the team on track. The Angels have shot up the standings during their win streak, pulling themselves back to .500 and passing the slumping Athletics and the Texas Rangers in the AL West standings, where they sit two games out of first place.

5/22/25 Angels Hitting Coaches Credited for Turning Around All-Star Slugger's Slump. Los Angeles Angels All-Star right fielder and designated hitter Jorge Soler broke out of a cold streak against the Athletics this week, and gave all credit to the work he had been doing with his coaches. “In the beginning, I wasn't hitting the ball hard, and since three days ago to now, I've been working with the hitting coaches,” Soler said through an interpreter.

5/21/25 Angels Regret Trading for $42 Million All-Star, Says Insider. Jorge Soler has not been the source of serious power the Los Angeles Angels thought he'd be when acquiring him in the offseason from the Atlanta Braves. An outfielder with the reputation as an elite slugger, Soler only has six homers thus far on the year. When further analyzing his advanced metrics, Soler's hitting numbers are quite poor. Bleacher Report writer Kerry Miller crafted a piece in which all 30 MLB ballclubs were analyzed.
