7/26/25 | Astros 'best fit' for Royals ace at trade deadline?. The trade deadline is just around the corner, and despite all of the injuries the team has sustained, the Houston Astros still hold their lead over the Seattle Mariners and the Texas Rangers in the American League West standings. Lance McCullers Jr. is great and all, but the team has to draw the line with his injury-proneness at one point or another, and since Justin Verlander parted the team for a second time at the conclusion of last season, Hunter Brown and Framber Valdez have really been all that the team has to offer in terms of starters on the mound. The Houston Astros have had an incredible first half to the season, however, they have run into a bumpy patch as of late. The Astros got two more significant injury reports this week with both starting pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. and new star third baseman Isaac Paredes hitting the injured list. 7/16/25 | Lance McCullers Jr. Will Be Elite for Astros if He Can Figure This One Thing Out. One of the feel-good stories of the 2025 campaign for the Houston Astros thus far has been the return of starting pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. Before making his season debut on May 4 against the Chicago White Sox, the last time McCullers took the mound for an MLB game was in the World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies in 2022. Multiple injuries and setbacks cost him the following two campaigns, but he worked tirelessly to put himself in a position to return to the Astros this season. Houston is fortunate he has been able to pitch regularly -- outside of a stint on the injured list that cost him just over two weeks in June -- because their staff has been ravaged by injuries. 7/12/25 | Astros Franchise Legend Has Become Liability Since Return From Recent Injury. One of the best feel-good stories of the 2025 MLB campaign thus far was the return of Houston Astros starter Lance McCullers Jr. to the mound back in May. The now-31-year-old didn't get off to the best start, but quickly settled in to become the reliable arm the Astros had long known him to be. McCullers eventually recovered and was looking to pick right back up where he left off following his reinstatement on June 28. Unfortunately for both him and Houston, though, that hasn't been the case. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/astros/news/astros-franchis... |

The 31-year-old righty had only made seven starts on the season prior to going down, going 1-2 with a 4.91 ERA, 1.432 WHIP, 12.0 strikeouts per nine innings and a -0.3 WAR. 6/26/25 | Astros Skipper Says Lance McCullers Jr. Could Return Saturday. The Houston Astros have managed to put together an impressive run of baseball lately, and despite missing quite a few starting pitchers, have had some strong performances in the last month or so. With a 47-33 record, they have found their stride and sit 5.5 games in the lead of the American League West ahead of Thursday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. One of the players who has struggled with injury setbacks is Lance McCullers Jr., who was placed on the 15-day injured list back on June 13 with a sprained foot. While he unfortunately has had to miss some additional time with that foot injury, it seems as though the stint on the injured list could be coming to a wrap soon.
