7/26/25 Phillies Starting Pitcher Aaron Nola Set To Begin Rehab Assignment. The Philadelphia Phillies have had a solid start to their 2025 season, but there is still room to improve as they head into the MLB trade deadline. The good news is they have players set to return from injury, and one of them is a former All-Star starting pitcher. Aaron Nola had a tough go of things early on this year before a sprained ankle and a stress fracture of his rib putting him on the shelf. Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Nola will make his first rehab start on Thursday, July 31 against the Worcester Red Sox.

7/18/25 Phillies Provide Positive Update on Status of Starting Pitcher Aaron Nola. The 2025 MLB regular season has been a disastrous one for Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Nola. In addition to the ankle sprain, Nola picked up a stress fracture in his right rib cage that was discovered when he began ramping up his throwing activity. The setback led to the Phillies transferring him to the 60-day IL, which meant he wasn't eligible to return until after the All-Star break, which has just concluded. News regarding the 2018 National League All-Star has been mostly negative to this point, but a positive update has been provided by Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer.

7/17/25 Guardians Star Closer Named Potential Fit For Phillies at MLB Trade Deadline. With the second half of the season about to start for the Philadelphia Phillies, the month of July is going to be a critical one for the franchise. Despite being in first place in the National League East, the margin is very slim for the Phillies, and there are reasons to be concerned about the outlook of the team. Fortunately, an amazing starting rotation has covered up a lot of problems thus far for Philadelphia. With multiple All-Star caliber pitchers, the unit has been thriving, even with Aaron Nola on the injured list.

7/17/25 Phillies Need Second-Round Pick to Realize Immense Potential in Key Area. The Philadelphia Phillies had a clear idea of the kind of prospects they were going to target early in the 2025 MLB Draft. Given the current state of their bullpen, they were hoping to land some players who have the potential to help them in the near future, potentially at some point down the stretch of the 2025 MLB regular season. Each of the last five first-round picks the Phillies have made were high schoolers; the last three were positional players. In 2014, when Philadelphia selected Aaron Nola out of LSU, was the last time a first-round pick was used on a collegiate pitcher.

7/01/25 Phillies Star Prospect Andrew Painter Won't Pitch in Futures Game. There was some excitement for two Philadelphia Phillies prospects when the Futures Game rosters were announced. Manager Rob Thomson announced, as reported by Todd Zolecki of MLB.com, that Painter will not pitch in the Futures Game, with the plan still being to shut him down during the All-Star break to prepare him for his eventual Major League call up. While that might be disappointing on the surface, it's likely a trade Philadelphia fans will take. Painter is seen as the next weapon who will be added to this already-elite rotation, giving the Phillies the potential to have five high-end starting arms, a number that could be seven when Aaron Nola eventually returns from his ankle and rib injuries and with Mick Abel also in the mix.

The Baton Rouge, La., native surpassed Curt Schilling for the ninth-most innings pitched by a Phillie in his start on May 3 and is 13 strikeouts shy of tying Cole Hamels for the third-most strikeouts in franchise history. Nola was originally selected by the Phillies in the first round (7th overall) of the 2014 MLB Draft.
