8/02/25 | Red Sox named trade deadline loser after mediocre pitching acquisitions. The Boston Red Sox shocked the baseball world when they traded All-Star third baseman Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants on Father's Day. Boston has been one of the hottest teams in Major League Baseball since then and now sit just four games behind the Toronto Blue Jays for first place in the American League East. The Red Sox are just a half-game back from the New York Yankees for the top AL Wild Card spot. Source: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/boston-red-sox... |
8/01/25 | Red Sox Tried Bringing $24 Million All-Star to Boston: Report. The Boston Red Sox had a much quieter trade deadline than many expected them to have. After the Red Sox traded Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants, the front office made it crystal clear that the organization was planning on buying ahead of the trade deadline. Boston was around .500 when it started saying its plans to buy. The Red Sox turned things around and look like contenders. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/red-sox/boston-red-sox-news... |
8/01/25 | How MLB Expert Graded Red Sox Trade Deadline. After the MLB trade deadline, there have been varying opinions on how the Boston Red Sox did. The Athletic's Jim Bowden handed the Red Sox a C-, the lowest grade in the American League East. The grade included the Rafael Devers trade in June, which didn't seem to help Boston get a higher grade, but also didn't hurt it. “Let's start with the shocking blockbuster in mid-June: I didn't think the Red Sox got enough in return for Rafael Devers, and believe they should have waited until the trade deadline to make the move, but I also understand they shed his massive contract and have played much better since the trade,” Bowden wrote. 7/31/25 | McDonald: SF Giants are free falling, and it only ends with a crash landing. Everyone on the team knows it, and they all watched as one of the most respected players on the team was sent packing while they were in the process of seeing their record fall to 54-55 with a 2-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 10 innings. The Giants have lost 12 of 14 and were 9-15 in July after once-upon-a-time being 40-28 on June 11 and then trading for Rafael Devers four days later. Heliot Ramos, an All-Star a year ago, ended the Wednesday loss snapping his bat at the handle over his knee after striking out. Ramos has been a defensive disaster in left field and equally as bad as a baserunner of late. Source: https://www.marinij.com/2025/07/31/mcdonald-sf-gia... |

7/30/25 | Giants in spiral since Rafael Devers trade as postseason chances dwindle. Rafael Devers was supposed to add some pop to the San Francisco Giants’ lineup after he was traded by the Boston Red Sox. Source: https://sports.yahoo.com/article/giants-spiral-sin... |
7/30/25 | 1 last-minute trade San Francisco Giants must complete before 2025 deadline. The San Francisco Giants made the biggest trade of the year, long before trade season picked up, when they dealt for Rafael Devers. Unfortunately, Devers and his new team have struggled since the move. The struggles could force the Giants into another big trade before the 2025 MLB trade deadline. Ryan O'Hearn fits the description and would be a perfect trade target, especially because the Baltimore Orioles have already started a fire sale. 7/30/25 | Red Sox 'have seen flashes' from starter acquired in Rafael Devers trade. Red Sox manager Alex Cora recently admitted that he's concerned with the team's starting pitching depth. “Obviously we're one pitch away from somebody (else) getting hurt,” Cora said during the last homestand. Kutter Crawford (wrist surgery) and Hunter Dobbins (ACL tear) are out for the rest of the season. Tanner Houck has been on the IL since May 14 with a right flexor pronator strain. 7/29/25 | Red Sox skipper hints at potential trade deadline changes. At 57-51, the Boston Red Sox hold the final Wild Card playoff spot, but with the trade deadline quickly approaching, will they be active? The Red Sox already made arguably the biggest blockbuster trade of the season when they traded three-time All-Star Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants. Since then, the team has excelled, with young players like Roman Anthony making their impact known. Red Sox skipper Alex Cora believes that things are "different" this season, and that the team will look to add at the trade deadline, as transcribed by MassLive's Sean McAdam. 7/28/25 | Red Sox Reportedly 'No Longer Entertaining' Jarren Duran Trade Talks. The Boston Red Sox may have traded away one of their former All-Star players earlier this season in Rafael Devers. According to a recent report, it doesn't sound like they will be trading away another former All-Star ahead of the trade deadline. While the Red Sox, who are firmly in the American League wild card race, are intent on being buyers at the deadline, a crunch of outfielders led to Jarren Duran seeing his name pop up in trade rumors over the past few weeks. A deal involving Duran never seemed to be all that likely, and those odds dwindled even further when Marcelo Mayer hit the injured list with a wrist injury last week. 7/28/25 | Red Sox can't afford to risk going with this trade deadline approach in 2025. Ever since the Rafael Devers trade, Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow has been clear about his deadline plan: be aggressive. The Sox were a few games out of the Wild Card and weren't in a position to be aggressive buyers in late July. Then, a 10-game win streak headed into the All-Star break pulled Boston into the thick of the playoff hunt. All of a sudden, Breslow's plan seemed more viable. 7/26/25 | Devers' defensive growing pains on display SF Giants drop series to Mets. There were always going to be growing pains for Rafael Devers at first base. Devers committed an error along with several miscues in his third career game at first base as the Giants lost 2-1 to the New York Mets, one of which set the stage for New York's Mark Vientos to hit a go-ahead, two-run double in the sixth. Robbie Ray took the loss as he allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings with three walks to three strikeouts. The Mets loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the fourth, doing so with the help of Devers' first miscue at first base. Source: https://www.chicoer.com/2025/07/26/devers-defensiv... |

7/24/25 | 4 Red Sox players who are absolutely untouchable at the 2025 trade deadline. The trade deadline is right around the corner and aside from a surprise in dealing Rafael Devers to San Francisco, the Boston Red Sox have yet to commit to a decisive trade strategy to help run out the remainder of the season. The Sox were on a tear, winning 10 in a row to head into the All-Star break, and certainly giving Craig Breslow plenty of reasons to go all the way on a buying strategy to push for a playoff spot. 7/23/25 | Rafael Devers debuts at first base for Giants after refusing to play position for Red Sox. Rafael Devers has made his debut at first base for the San Francisco Giants. Tuesday night's start at Atlanta was the slugger's first at the position that he refused to play for his previous team, the Boston Red Sox. Boston traded Devers to San Francisco in June after his relationship with management deteriorated less than two years into a 10-year, $313.5 million contract he signed in 2023. After the trade, Devers said he felt he had “earned some respect” because of his production in Boston. But he added that he'd be happy to play first for the Giants.
